MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 29th January 2012
Hello everybody and welcome one & all to another helping of 'Seven Days' our weekly scribe of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a little bit more.
Once again this midweek our proposed midweek fixture list has been severely disrupted by the awful weather resulting in a large number of waterlogged pitches out and about.
Of the two matches that were actually played I am delighted to advise you that our friends Windsor have moved a step closer to a place in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy Final following their 2-1 extra time victory of Newport Pagnell Town over at Stag Meadow Monday evening.
Played in front of a reasonable size crowd of 87 folk Windsor quickly got into their stride on the night and took a sixth minute lead courtesy of Rob Lazarczuk. This lead they held until just about the hour mark only for the visitors to square the tie through Scott Mulkern and eventually take the tie into extra time.
With the first period of extra time in its advanced stages up stepped Ryan O'Toole to secure the victory for the home side and a semi-final tie with Abingdon Town at a later date I believe away from home – we wish them well.
The only other game that managed to beat the weather was the Warlingham Vs Frimley Green Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup 3rd Round tie which went ahead Wednesday evening over at Church Road.
Goals from Danny Macdiarmid and Kieran Dias for the home side plus one from Jack Keenan for the visitors ensured that Warlingham can now look forward to a home semi-final tie with Cobham on a date to be confirmed.
Just for the record the proposed Knaphill Vs Eversley Grant-McLellan Youth Cup 2nd Round tie planned for Thursday evening fell foul of the weather and yet another waterlogged pitch.
And so to Saturday. Time to hit the road again hopefully for yours truly, having had my midweek aspirations put on hold thanks to mother nature I initially fancied a trip to Chalky Lane and as I do I got myself to Northampton train station with high hopes and so my day commenced.
Upon my arrival at Chessington South I made the short walk only to discover that the game had earlier become victim of the weather so a quick scratch pointed me in the direction of Raynes Park Vale who were due to be hosting Banstead Athletic.
Upon my arrival at Grand Drive it was delightful to hear those words 'Game On', as is the norm at RPV you are always assured of a friendly welcome and a nice hot cup of tea.
As for the game it was the visitors who drew first blood in the 13th minute courtesy of Wes Goggin. Since last getting to see the 'A's' the squad had been bolstered and some of their play was rather nice to watch.
Raynes Park on the other hand had a number of absentees which made their task a wee bit harder, half time arrived Banstead remained one goal to the good.
Second half was then seven minutes old when that man Goggin doubled their lead and hopes within their travel party were high.
64 minutes played 'Vale' pulled a goal back when Antony Mould took a shot that went over the visiting keeps head and they were back in the contest, 77 minutes it was Danny Alderton who squared the game up at two each following some good work.
No more goals in the game but there were chances created by either side but in the end it finished all square yours truly felt fully entertained.
One of my personal highlights of being at the game was to see a certain Terry Parmenter (Banstead Secretary) in attendance. Terry as many know for a long while had been laid low health wise and to see him out and about filled me with sheer delight and great belief that his well being is certainly a joy to report to the many who like myself know him fondly.
As for little old me hopefully next stop weather permitting will be Egham this Tuesday evening when all being well they will welcome Guernsey to the Runnymede Stadium but as I mentioned earlier I had a wonderful afternoon out thanks to hosts Raynes Park Vale.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division I guess the surprise of the day was leaders Guildford City who went down 1-2 at home to Wembley and had their lead at the top cut to eight points as second placed Windsor who have two games in hand edged out Molesey in a seven goal thriller at Stag Meadow. 4-3 this one finished, while third placed Egham picked up maximum points following the visit of Cove – 3-1 this one finished.
Fourth placed Hanworth Villa and fifth placed Camberley Town both conceded four goals each on their travels at South Park and Croydon respectively. Camberley losing 4-1 to Croydon and Hanworth Villa 4-0 at South Park.
Badshot Lea seemed to have the points in the bag at Weycourt. They were 3-1 up and in control but Farnham Town came back in the last 15 minutes and drew 3-3. The equaliser coming in the 9th minute of added time.
Division One leaders Guernsey shrugged off last weekend's defeat winning 3-1 against Feltham while second placed Bedfont Sports went down 1-4 at Warlingham. One of the big surprises of the day in Division One was the tremendous 5-2 victory for Worcester Park at Eversley. Equally at the other end of the table Sheerwater picked up a good point a Spelthorne Sports in a six goal classic.
Time to sign off now folks – Have A Great Week and as always I look forward to being back with you next week – Enjoy Your Football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 24th January 2012
Hello again and welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly recollection of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties & a little bit more.
Following my recent trip to Whitley
Bay to see South Park do battle with the current F.A. Vase holders, I am now
back home putting together this short scribe still asking the same question,
were the hosts really five goals better than South Park? Sure Whitley Bay were
good but certainly not five goals better. 761 hearty folk braved a very cold
afternoon in the North East to witness this tie, with the hosts missing a glorious
chance to take a first minute lead when a glorious cross eluded all thankfully.
'Bay' took the lead on 21 minutes courtesy of goal machine Paul Chow who, prior
to the game had already scored over fifty goals this season. He popped up to
net the first of his three for the afternoon and this was how the score line
stayed going into the half time break but South Park found themselves reduced
to ten men following Kieran Lavery's straight red card.
The second half was barely ninety seconds in when Chow doubled his tally for the afternoon and the task was proving even harder. 55 minutes in and it was 3-0 courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Gerry O'Sullivan.
To be fair though 'Park' did not lay down and accept the inevitable although the odds were stacked against them. Chow completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute then in the closing stages substitute Damon Robson completed the scoring. So 5-0 it finished and the dreams of our lads over for this season. Whitley Bay now host West Auckland Town in the next round and we wish them well, and so the dream of Vase glory has come to an end this season for teams in our league but there have been some great moments for a number of our clubs this season.
Finally I must pay tribute to the travelling contingent from South Park who were in fine voice throughout, willing the team on.
Away from all this, current Premier Division leaders Guildford City now lead the chasing pack by a clear eleven points following their latest success which was a 2-0 win at lowly Banstead Athletic. Goals from Jack Guilford and Joel Hughes being sufficient to take the spoils. This was a good follow on from their 5-1 success over at Sandhurst Town last Tuesday evening. City were comfortable winners in this one thanks to goals from Austin Gacheru (2), Dan Moody, Jack Guilford and Will Heavey.
Second placed Windsor who have a couple of games in hand let slip a two goal interval lead, following their trip to Hanworth Villa. First half goals from Yashwa Romeo and Jake Parsons looked to set them well on the way to three more points but second half goals from Andy Oakes and Laurie Shennan regained parity.
Climbing up to third spot are Egham Town who, thanks to goals from Dale Marvell, Luke Muldowney, Matt Grave and Jamie Houghton, hit bottom of the table Mole Valley SCR 4-0 over at the 'Leg 'O' Mutton' Field Anvil Lane.
There was defeat for Camberley Town who slipped a couple of places to fifth following a 0-1 reversal at Horley Town who scored an early goal through Kyle Hough in front of a healthy crowd of 105, whilst sixth placed Molesey slipped up 0 -3 at home to Badshot Lea, with Aaron Agnann, Adam Prentice and Darren Blake on target for the visitors.
Rounding up Saturday's Premier Division results, Colliers Wood put their 5-2 home reversal on Wednesday evening behind them and recorded a 2-0 victory over Chessington & Hook. Croydon and visitors Epsom & Ewell shared four goals whilst Ash United picked up maximum points following their trip to Dorking. 3-2 this one finished and finally Farnham Town and Wembley drew 1-1 over at the Memorial Ground West Street.
Division One saw leaders Guernsey suffer only their second league defeat of the season going down 2-3 at home to an ever improving Eversley side who, so I am advised, were good value for their win. Second placed Bedfont Sports kept up the pressure by recording a 3-0 home success over visitors Knaphill and Hartley Wintney hit three without reply at South Kilburn. On target for Hartley were Kingston, from a penalty, followed by Daniels and Williams. Warlingham were without a game.
Elsewhere in Division One Farleigh Rovers picked up three welcome points following a good 3-1 success over visitors Bookham who lie just below them in the table whilst Frimley Green and Cobham shared four goals as did Worcester Park and Feltham.
Spelthorne Sports needed a very late stoppage time goal to secure maximum points from their trip to Westfield – 3-2 being the final score of this contest and Staines Lammas were 2-1 home winners against C B Hounslow.
On Monday evening Windsor at the second time of asking, progressed to the semi-final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy following a 2-1 victory against a tricky Newport Pagnell team and will now face Abingdon Town.
As I look out my window the rain continues to fall here in Northampton but hopefully many of the midweek games on Tuesday will beat the weather (sadly none of them) and I will be back with you after the weekends array of fixtures.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 17th January 2012
Hello again and welcome to 'Seven Days' and for the next couple of weeks a little bit more as a result of putting this article a bit later.
The midweek selection of fixtures commenced Monday evening, courtesy of Cobham who played host to AFC Wimbledon reserves in a Quarter Final Surrey Premier Cup tie. Great to be able to report that a superb 2-1 victory was achieved by Cobham who now face either Lingfield Reserves or Dorking Wanderers in the semi's.
Not such good fortune for Sandhurst Town who played host to Abingdon Town on Tuesday evening in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy Quarter Final. Although the crowd were treated to nine goals in the game, it was the visitors who triumphed 6-3 in a very entertaining encounter.
On this same evening Surrey Senior Cup football was the order of the day at Ash United and South Park. Ash bowed out of the competition going down 0-3 to a very strong Woking side, while South Park thanks to a solitary 63rd minute goal, progressed to the next stage thanks to a superb victory over Ryman Premier side Leatherhead. They will now face Sutton United in the quarter finals.
Two Premier Division fixtures also took place Tuesday evening resulting in 3-1 victories for Egham Town at Dorking and Hanworth Villa who won 6-3 at Cove.
On Wednesday evening Colliers Wood United progressed further in the EL Records Premier Challenge Cup following a 2-1 home success against Dorking while in the Surrey Premier Cup Staines Lammas produced a marvellous 5-2 victory over Walton & Hersham Reserves on their travels.
On Saturday our Premier Division produced a very healthy 49 goals and to start my round-up I begin at league leaders Guildford City who played host to Horley Town. A hat-trick from Dan Moody plus a brace from Joel Hughes and one from Jack Guilford ensured an impressive 6-0 victory.
Two first half goals from Andrew Pagan and Michael Chennells were enough to secure a 2-0 home victory for second placed Windsor against visitors Farnham Town over at Stag Meadow. Third placed Egham Town suffered a shock 0-1 reversal at lowly Raynes Park Vale, Hugo Campo hitting the winner in the 38th minute.
Swapping places were Camberley Town who, despite having defender Andrew Grace sent off in the 44th minute for violent conduct, registered a 7-1 home victory over Colliers Wood United. Matt Griffiths and Martin Girling both scored three and James Mepham completed the rout.
Fifth spot as I write belongs to Hanworth Villa who as mentioned previously won 6-3 at Cove midweek. Saturday saw the 'Villans' back on the road again, destination Wey Court to take on Badshot Lea, which was where I chose to spend my Saturday afternoon and was greeted with was a very polished display from the visitors as they ran out 7-0 victors. On target for Hanworth were Lawrie Shennan (3), Adam Baigent, Levi King, Matt Baines and Leeyon Phelan.
In sixth spot you will find Molesey who picked up three points following their trip to Sandhurst, 4-1 the score from this one. Horley Town occupy seventh spot while in eighth spot you will find South Park who hit five without reply against Croydon. Rounding off Premier Division news Ash United and Mole Valley shared four goals at Youngs Drive.
Division One pacesetters Guernsey were again amongst the goals following their trip to Worcester Park, with Dave Rihoy and Ross Allen hitting braces for the visitors, while Gary Knowelden hit a last minute consolation goal for the 'Park'.
Second placed Bedfont Sports lost a bit of ground going down 1-0 to Feltham, but third placed Eversley made the short trip over to Frimley Green and came away with a 2-1 victory. Warlingham’s match at home to Knaphill was the victim of a frozen pitch but Hartley Wintney hit four without reply following their trip to bottom club Sheerwater.
Top scorers of the day in Div One were Westfield who hit eight without reply against Bookham. Goals from Hogsden (4), Cheesman (2), plus one apiece from Tyler and Woodley doing the damage.
A couple of Middlesex Intermediate Cup matches were also played resulting in exits for Spelthorne Sports who were soundly beaten 6-1 against British Airways and C B Hounslow United who lost on penalties to Chiswick Homefields after the teams were locked at two each at the end of play.
Finally for this round-up Farleigh Rovers entertained Staines Lammas in a 3rd Round Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup match – 3-1 this one finished in favour of the visitors.
Monday evening Windsor were due to host Newport Pagnell Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy – sadly this game was called off late due to the re-appearance of frost which certainly from here seemed to be hanging about all day – details of a new date for this tie will follow as soon as known.
Three Premier Division fixtures went ahead Tuesday evening resulting in wins for Raynes Park Vale – 2-1 at Epsom & Ewell, Hanworth Villa – 4-0 at Mole Valley and finally Guildford City – 5-1 at Sandhurst Town and hopefully I can provide more detail on these games in my next scribe.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 8th January 2012
Hello again and welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly recollection of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League & a little bit more.
With most of the league activity taking place on Monday just a couple of further games took place. One of which was at South Park who entertained Mole Valley SCR and it was the visitors who took the points following a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Danny Elgar and Liam Holden.
Credit must go to South Park for getting the game on considering the rain that battered the area for the previous two days and, with conditions worsening throughout the game, it would be fair to say that the pitch held up remarkably well.
Thursday evening Sandhurst Town bounced back from their 0-2 reversal against Ash United with a cracking win over Staines Town in the Southern Combination Cup.
In securing this marvelous success, the 'Fizzers' certainly secured victory the hard way. 2-0 down after three minutes they bounced back with two second half goals courtesy of Adam Cole. They then conceded shortly afterwards but drew level three minutes into injury time.
Extra Time saw Sandhurst go behind twice more before a late Paul Harklness goal take the game to penalties. Staines missed the first kick then Sandhurst keeper Matt Watson made a world class save diving to his right as the 'Fizzers' ran out winners 4-3.
And so, on to Saturday. Premier Division leaders Guildford City travelled over to Hanworth Villa and came away with a very good 2-1 victory.
The visitors looked bright early on but soon found themselves under long spells of Hanworth pressure. City always looked dangerous on the break however, and it was from one of these they opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Tony Chaplin fed Dan Moody whose shot was palmed into the path of Austin Gacheru.
While Villa were creating chances they found Antony Hall and the Guildford defense in fine form. Second half Guildford City began to exert themselves and doubled their lead on 64 minutes when Dan Moody nicked the ball past goalkeeper Terry Buss before calmly slotting home. It could have been game over shortly afterwards but Austin Gacheru's fine shot cannoned back of the crossbar. The home side still looked positive and threatening up front but could not find a way past visiting keeper Hall and began to show gaps in the midfield as they pressed to get back into the match.
An injury to the referee Andrew Connor meant plenty of stoppage time and the hosts clawed a goal back through Levi King in the 93rd minute but 'City' held on to record victory and dent Hanworth's most impressive home record.
Elsewhere second placed Windsor with a game in hand and six points adrift edged a thriller 3-2 at basement club Mole Valley SCR. The winner coming in stoppage time courtesy of Michael Chennell. Additional goals from Windsor came via Jake Parsons and Ryan O'Toole, Adewale Oshilada and Arnold Okrior scoring for the hosts.
Third placed Camberley went down 4-0 against ten man Molesey whose goals came from Manny Quarshie (3) and Dariush Herval. Fourth placed Egham Town secured three more points following their trip to Wembley. On target for the visitors were Dale Marvell and Charlie Muldowney.
Horley town moved up to sixth spot following a good 4-1 home win over Chessington & Hook United. On target for Horley were Kyle Hough, Kevin Lock, Anthony Jupp and Mithun Nayee.
Ash United went down 0-2 at Raynes Park Vale and final Premier Division news comes from Croydon who, thanks to goals from Jose Goncalves (2) and Claudio De Almeida, secured a 3-1 success over visitors Dorking.
Division One league leaders Guernsey were the visitors of bottom club Sheerwater which provided me with my trip out for the afternoon.
Accompanied by another 149 other folk it was the visitors who despite missing a first half penalty eventually took a first half lead in the 40th minute courtesy of Matt Loaring.
Second Half although a bit slow to get going certainly warmed up in the 59th minute when a delightful cross was met on the head of Andy Matthews to level the match. Ross Allen then put the visitors back in front on 62 minutes followed by another Matt Loaring goal barely a minute later. Ryan-Zico Black then added a fourth to secure the points.
It was so good to see such a healthy sized crowd assemble and all who I spoke to especially the visitors like myself agreed how pleasant it was to see efforts off the pitch rewarded as well as quite a good afternoon's football – Well Done Sheerwater.
Second placed Bedfont Sports made the short journey to C.B. Hounslow and bagged themselves three more points to keep the pressure on the leaders.
Although quite a way behind points wise the chasing pack led by Warlingham closely followed by Eversley, Hartley Wintney and Staines Lammas still can not be under estimated.
Equally at the other end of the table it is oh so very tight.
Back With You Next Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 2nd January 2012
In wishing you all a very happy New Year it is with the usual pleasure that I welcome you all to 'Seven Days' our weekly chat from the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League.
A Joel Hughes hat-trick plus a pair of converted penalties from Dan Moody saw Guildford City get the new year underway with a 5-3 victory over Horley Town.
City were given a rude awakening to 2012 when Adam Pullen took full advantage of some sloppy defending to put the home side ahead after just one minute. City leveled on 17 minutes when Dan Moody stepped up to slot home his first penalty of the day. City were then able to play the ball down the left wing and Austin Gacheru eventually found space to pull the ball back from the touchline in to Joel Hughes who scored his first goal of the day into an empty net..
The second half got off to an energetic start – Horley were quick to press and found themselves back on level terms thanks to a converted Hough penalty in the 48th minute. Almost immediately City were back in front again, Joel Hughes deflected effort bobbled on the turf and evaded the despairing lunge of the home keeper. That was to be to keeper's penultimate action in the match, unsurprisingly, he then received his second yellow card in the match. From the resultant spot kick Dan Moody made no mistake to make it 4-2.
The result was then put beyond doubt in the 82nd minute courtesy of Joel Hughes. Shortly afterwards Hough scored his second penalty for the hosts to make it four penalties in the match but it proved in the end to be no more than consolation in this eventful match that in general was played in very good spirit on a heavy pitch.
Second placed Windsor were due to visit Dorking but this game fell victim to the weather. Elsewhere two goals in the opening twelve minutes saw Molesey take the spoils at Vale Farm, Ross Chalke & Lewis Akerman on target for the visitors.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division Ash United inflicted a 6-1 drubbing on Sandhurst Town over at Youngs Drive, Badshot edged pat Cove 3-2, Camberley Town hit Farnham Town for six without reply at Krooner Park, Chessington & Hook United picked up a precious 3-1 victory at home to Croydon as did Egham Town following the visit of Hanworth Villa.
In Division One, Second Placed Bedfont Sports further reduced the gap on leaders Guernsey following their 2-1 home success over Spelthorne Sports. Knaphill took the spoils on their trip to Eversley – 2-1 the outcome of this one. Warlingham hit Farleigh Rovers for six following their short trip to the Parsonage Field.
Elsewhere within Division One, Feltham beat Sheerwater 4-2 at the Orchard, a solitary goal at Frimley Green was enough to send visitors Hartley Wintney home empty handed, as was the case at Westfield at the expense of visitors Staines Lammas. Last but not least Worcester Park started the new year with maximum points following the visit of Cobham – 3-0 final score of this match. The proposed match involving South Kilburn and C.B. Hounslow fell victim to a waterlogged pitch.
League Leaders Guernsey weather permitting visit Sheerwater this coming Saturday kick-off 1pm and as always it is always a pleasant trip to the Recreation Ground. It would great to think that a fair sized crowd will be in attendance and believe the club have a few nice ideas in mind for visitors.
Wherever you may roam Saturday folks enjoy your football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 28th December 2011
Hello again and welcome to 'Seven days' our weekly scribe of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a little bit more.
Since last being with you it is with the deepest of regret that I advise you of the passing of Tony Buss on the evening of 19th December 2011.
Tony was a hugely popular chap at Hanworth Villa and will be so sadly missed by so many who over the years got to know him in our beautiful game. Personally I met him for the first time as a league officer just a few months ago following the clubs tremendous F.A. Cup victory against Aveley and it was a sheer delight. Football at our level has had one of its true characters taken away from not only his beloved family but many of us followers of non league football. R.I.P. Tony you will be a very hard act to follow.
Football wise just two games went ahead thanks to the weather in the midweek leading up to Christmas. Firstly our friends from Wembley bowed out of the Middlesex Charity Cup following a 3-1 reversal at Uxbridge and also on the same evening Cobham recorded a 5-1 home victory against Sheerwater in Division One.
There was to have been a Premier Division match Wednesday evening over at Colliers Wood United against near neighbours Raynes Park Vale but again this fell victim to the weather.
Instead of Boxing Day fixtures this season Holiday Tuesday gave us plenty of football to get out and enjoy. To start my round-up in the Premier Division I can report that after some early teething problems a makeshift Guildford City side overcame Dorking after twice coming from behind.
Leroy Hyett's early penalty put City on the back foot and the home side struggled to break down their visitors. Dan Moody came closest with a long range effort that struck a post. City finally began to exert some pressure after the half hour mark and were rewarded in the 32nd minute. Dorking goalkeeper, Tim Bewster, gifted Martin Debrah his first goal for the club after making a mess of a James Thoroughgood pass. Parity didn't last long though as Shane Duffell finished off a neat move from the visitors to put them ahead at the break.
City were stronger in the second half and they levelled matters ten minutes into the restart when Tony Chaplin found himself unmarked to head home from a corner. Dan Moody scored the winner in the 67th minute, finishing from a tight angle after cutting inside his marker.
City had a couple of opportunities to extend their lead but had to settle for a slim margin of a victory – 3-2 the final score but Dorking certainly made them work hard for their three points that keep them top of the table.
Hot on the heels of Guildford City you will find league new boys Windsor. The last visitors to Stag Meadow were Raynes Park Vale and were badly beaten 10-0 by their rampant hosts.
For this festive clash with Egham Town the club offered all who attended free admission resulting in a fantastic attendance of 806 by far the best crowd seen at Windsor this season. 4-1 was the result in the victory achieved by the home side. It would be good to think that crowds of this size would come back again.
Following the recent sad events at Hanworth Villa, Wembley visited Rectory Meadows and were duly beaten 3-0. Levi King scored the club's 100 competitive goal of the season followed by goal 101 from Lawrie Shennan and then goal 102 from Shaun Preddie to send their visitors home empty handed.
Epsom & Ewell visited Merland Rise and secured all three points courtesy of a 48th minute effort from Ross White.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division briefly. Cove and Camberley Town shared the spoils in a ten goal thriller. Ash United recorded back to back victories this time winning 3-0 at Farnham. Sandhurst pipped Badshot Lea 3-2 at Bottom Meadow. South Park took the spoils following the visit of Horley Town – 2-1 this one finished. Croydon beat Mole Valley SCR at the Sports Arena and finally Premier Division wise Molesey hit four without reply against lowly Chessington & Hook United.
In Division One, league leaders Guernsey were without a league fixture. Second placed Bedfont Sports travelled to face Staines Lammas and came away with a good 1-0 victory. Also riding high are Eversley who made the short trip to Hartley Wintney but were soundly beaten 4-0. Elsewhere in Division One Bookham went down 1-3 at home to Frimley Green, Feltham registering the same score line following their short trip to C.B. Hounslow. Spelthorne Sports took the spoils 1-0 at home to South Kilburn. The big winners were Farleigh Rovers who on their travels won 4-1 at Worcester Park and rounding things off Westfield picked up maximum points following their trip to Knaphill – 2-1 this game finished.
Monday 2nd January weather permitting there is a full round of league fixtures out and about – please check the website for kick-off times etc.
All The Very Best For 2012 – Happy New year To You All, Enjoy Your Football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days
– 18th December 2011
Hello again and welcome one & all to 'Seven Days' our weekly flashback of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a little bit more.
In what can only be described as a very quiet midweek, thanks to the weather, several scheduled fixtures sadly fell by the wayside. However, on Tuesday evening, of the matches that managed to beat the elements, Hanworth Villa progressed to the next round of the Middlesex Senior Cup defeating Hillingdon Borough 5-3 after extra time but made hard work of things over at Rectory Meadows. Levi King put the hosts 1-0 up midway through the first half and things were looking good until just on the stroke of half time 'Boro' courtesy of Adam Willis levelled the tie.
Early stages of the second half the visitors played some neat football but without the cutting edge to get past that wonderful white line. Eventually on 61 minutes Hanworth took the lead through Joe Johnson and then barely five minutes later extended their lead thanks to Leeyon Phelan.
Progress was looking assured as the game entered stoppage time. However Hillingdon had other ideas and two quick goals from Adam Willis and Jack Buckle forced the tie into extra time against all odds.
Extra time was barely five minutes old when goal machine Lawrie Shennan once again put the hosts ahead and with barely ten minutes remaining he doubled his tally for the evening and ended the resistance of their visitors. 5-3 the final score and a mouth-watering tie with Hendon in the next round awaits them sometime in January.
On this same evening, Raynes Park Vale overcame Farleigh Rovers 3-0 in the Premier Challenge Cup. The one Division One fixture saw Hartley Wintney defeat C B Hounslow 4-0.
Two matches were due to go ahead Wednesday evening but the Premier Challenge Cup tie at Colliers Wood was another victim of the weather. In the other match, which was a Division One fixture, Warlingham beat Staines Lammas 2-1 on home soil.
Saturday again saw several matches fall victim of the weather. However, commencing with the Premier Division, second placed Windsor took advantage of Guildford City's postponement at Sandhurst and for the second time this season hit double figures in a league match over at Stag Meadow. Raynes Park Vale were the visitors who were on the wrong end of a 10-0 score line. Michael Chennell hit five plus a brace from Ryan O'Toole and one goal apiece from Karl Anthony, Yash Romeo and Ben Porter doing the damage. Over the Christmas hols Windsor are due to host Egham Town and for those who are planning a trip to Stag Meadow the club are offering free admission.
Third placed Camberley Town drew 1-1 with visitors Chessington & Hook United. Paul Andrews opened the scoring for Camberley but a late equaliser from Robbie Burns was sufficient to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.
Horley Town climbed into fifth spot following their 4-0 victory at basement club Mole Valley SCR. The 'Commoners' also had Shaun Scott sent off during the game for a two-footed tackle.
Hanworth Villa slipped down to sixth spot following their trip to Ash United. In a tight first half Ash took the lead on the half hour mark when from a free kick 25 yards out Jimmy Norman beat the Hanworth keeper with a deflection. The second half saw Ash quickly double their lead when Adam Beale finished off a good move. It wasn’t long before Duane Antonio pulled a goal back with a far post header.
With the game evenly balanced Ash won a penalty which was blasted well over. Shortly after though, from a corner, Liam Ralls pounced on a spill from the Hanworth keeper to blast the ball home and to round off an excellent performance by Ash. Just for good measure Phil Hornbrook broke away to add a fourth goal for the hosts on the stroke of full time to gain revenge for the 5-3 defeat they suffered at Hanworth a few weeks back.
Briefly there were good wins for Molesey – 6-1 at Dorking. Thanks mainly to a hat-trick from James McShane, also on target for the 'Moles' were Mannie Quarshie, Luke Elliot from the penalty spot and Lewis Ackerman.
A second half penalty converted by Sean Rivers secured a 1-0 victory for Croydon against Badshot Lea. Surprisingly (pleasantly) Cove picked up maximum points at the Moatside. Thanks to goals from Laurie Walters, Vinnie Bond and Andrew Harefield, on target for Epsom & Ewell were James Cottee and a spot kick from Vinnie Bond.
Division One pacesetters Guernsey along with second placed Bedfont Sports had their home games with Spelthorne Sports and Farleigh Rovers postponed. Eversley, Staines Lammas & Warlingham all secured maximum points from their matches, Hartley Wintney in sixth spot drew 3-3 at home with Knaphill as was the case at Frimley Green who entertained Worcester Park. At the bottom end of Division One South Kilburn bagged three points following a visit from Sheerwater.
Potentially just before Christmas Day hits us we have five games proposed for the week ahead – 4 games on Tuesday and then one Wednesday. Then weather permitting, Bank Holiday Tuesday 27th December, a full Premier Division fixture list and several Division One fixtures are available for your pleasure. Do please check our website to confirm kick-off times though as although normally on a Bank Holiday we get our games under way at 11.30am there are a few variations.
That, as they say folks, is your
lot for this week. Have a fantastic Christmas and I will be back with you again
around about the 28th.

Seven Days – 11th December 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly flashback of all things Cherry Red Combined Counties League & a little bit more.
The week got under way when Warlingham travelled over to Walton Casuals to take on AFC Wimbledon Reserves in a Surrey Premier Cup 2nd Round tie. Sadly it wasn’t their night though and they went down 2-1 and bowed out of the competition.
Tuesday evening Epsom & Ewell entertained Sutton United in the Surrey Senior Cup and it was the visitors who took the honours thanks to a 78th minute effort from Kyle Vassell in front of a disappointing crowd of just 104.
Two Aldershot Senior Cup 2nd Round ties resulting in two CCFL victories for Badshot Lea 1-0 against Hale Rovers and Farnham Town 5-1 victors over Yateley Green.
Three Premier Division matches also took place. Firstly Mole Valley had to come from 2-0 down to register a welcome 4-2 success over Banstead Athletic. On target for the 'Moles' were James Brown and Danny Fernandez who found the net three times, two of which were from the penalty spot.
Raynes Park Vale went down 0-3 at home to Croydon. League leaders Guildford City travelled over to South Park and picked up another three points thanks to an impressive 4-1 victory. Two goals each from Austin Gacheru and Dan Moody sent the previous weeks F.A. Vase conquerors crashing back down to earth. This can in some ways be expected as a huge amount of effort must have gone into that famous Vase triumph – a nice easy trip to Whitley Bay in January awaits South Park !!!
Bookham bowed out of the Surrey Premier Cup 0-1 at the hands of Old Wilsonians. The solitary Division One fixture saw Cobham take the spoils over at Hartley Wintney – 3-2 the score of this one.
Wednesday evening Hanworth Villa bowed out of the F.A. Vase following their trip to Herne Bay. Despite putting up a titanic effort in testing circumstances, having gone behind just before the interval they levelled the tie to take it into extra time but were eventually beaten 3-1.
Friday evening CCFL football was on offer over at Knaphill who welcomed Division One leaders Guernsey. A very healthy crowd of 323 assembled and were treated to a highly entertaining encounter which saw the visitors hit eight goals without reply against their hosts and further prove just how popular these Friday night games have been this season. Having hoped to get along myself I became a cruel victim of my local bus service which failed me in my hour of need.
And so to Saturday. I thought “How about a nice trip to Hampton Court”, having not been to Molesey for well over 25 years time to put that right – let the journey begin.
From memory previous visits were always most enjoyable and this one was no different. It might have been the coldest day of the year so far but the warmth you feel when you get there is second to none, the backroom team at Molesey led by Tracy ensure that a visit is always worthwhile and very pleasant. Add all this together and the hosts record, a 4-0 victory over Banstead Athletic, I can honestly saw I had a very pleasant afternoon in this wonderful part of Surrey.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division leaders Guildford City dropped a couple of points following the visit of Mole Valley SCR. 1-1 this one finished with the visitors being good value for their point. Second placed Windsor picked up another three points following their visit to South Park thanks to a solitary goal from Jake Parsons while over at Raynes Park visitors Camberley Town climbed into the top three thanks to their 7-1 success. Adam Cornell (3), Matt Griffiths (2) plus one goal each courtesy of Martin Girling and Rob Carrick delighting the travelling faithful from Krooner Park.
Egham Town slipped back to fourth spot following their 3-3 draw with Colliers Wood. Tom Hedges scored a first half hat-trick for the hosts in a richly entertaining encounter. Following their midweek Vase disappointments, Hanworth Villa hit seven without reply against Dorking over at Rectory Meadows. Goals from Lawrie Shennan on 17 minutes and an Adam Baigent spot kick midway through the first half got the ball rolling followed by five second half efforts from Leeyon Phelan (2), Charlie Hare, Lawrie Shennan and Levi King to ensure them a top five spot as I write.
Horley Town slipped back to sixth as their proposed match with Badshot Lea did not get underway. Goals galore over at Chalky Lane where Chessington & Hook United entertained Epsom & Ewell, 5-5 this one finished. Daniel Nwanze was on target for Croydon but a Joseph Loyzu brace gave visitors Ash United the points – 2-1 this one finished. Just to round off the Premier Division news, Sandhurst Town picked up three very useful points following their trip to Vale Farm and Cove also picked up three very welcome points following their 3-0 home success over Farnham Town.
As previously mentioned leaders Guernsey recorded an 8-0 success on their travels to Knaphill on Friday evening leaving the chasing pack to do their thing Saturday afternoon. Second placed Bedfont Sports were 3-1 victors at Worcester Park while Eversley went one better recording a 4-1 success following their match at Ashford with Staines Lammas. At the other end of the table Sheerwater played host to Westfield and picked up a welcome point courtesy of a 3-3 draw while just above them Farleigh Rovers took maximum points following their home game with Feltham. South Kilburn returned from their trip to Frimley Green pointless following their 3-1 reversal. Rounding Division One off this week Spelthorne Sports entertained Warlingham, this one finishing all square at one goal apiece.
Back With You Next Week Folks, Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 4th December 2011
Hello Again, Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly scribe of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a Little Bit More.
Tuesday evening saw five of our member clubs involved in Surrey Senior Cup Second Round activity. For four of the clubs the dreams of further progression came to an abrupt end but for the remaining one, namely South Park, the dream was kept very much alive by producing a fantastic 2-1 victory over Kingstonian.
Two Chris Smith goals, the second of which came in second half stoppage time either side of a Bobby Traynor effort for the visitors, were enough to produce a passage through to the next round and a home tie with Leatherhead sometime in the new year. Quite sure you will agree with me that a result like this deserves huge praise.
Over at Fleet Town our friends from Eversley came from behind to pick up a praise worthy 2-1 success over their alleged superiors. Matt Baker helping himself to a brace, this after Fleet had taken a 63rd minute lead through Watkins. They held their lead for barely five minutes before Baker squared the tie and then he doubled his tally for the evening in the 88th minute. So for them Aldershot Senior Cup football continues to keep their interesting season moving in the right direction – Great Result Guys – Well Done.
One El Records Premier Challenge Cup 2nd Round tie took place Tuesday evening. Goals from Mark Peters and a brace from John Pomroy plus a consolation penalty from Danny Fernandez ensured that Badshot Lea progressed at the expense of a depleted Mole Valley SCR side – 3-1 final score.
Two Premier Division matches were due to be played Horley Town and Hanworth Villa had to settle for one point each as the match at the New Defence ended up in a 0-0 stalemate. The other scheduled match between Banstead Athletic and Wembley fell foul of the weather.
Three Surrey Premier Cup 2nd Round ties went ahead resulting in progress for Cobham, 2-0 at home to Sheerwater, and Staines Lammas, 2-1 victors at Westfield. Frimley Green bowed out of the competition going down 0-3 at Lingfield.
On Wednesday evening there were just three games. Commencing with Guildford City, who left it late to secure the three points at stake against visitors Colliers Wood United. Having recently surrendered their unbeaten league record sweet revenge was very much on the agenda for 'City' who during the first half not only hit the woodwork twice but they also created numerous opportunities. In addition, Corey Holder produced a couple of well timed tackles to deny Colliers Wood.
With the clock ticking away and a draw looking to be the outcome Jack Guilford rose to break the deadlock on 81 minutes followed by an excellent individual effort from Austin Gacheru in the 88th minute revenge was secured – 2-0 final score.
Division One saw Bedfont Sports secure a 6-4 home success against C B Hounslow United and finally midweek wise over at Cove those in attendance were treated to a twelve goal feast which saw Cove bow out of the Aldershot Senior Cup – 7-5 the final score against Farnborough.
Saturday was F.A. Vase day for our two remaining clubs in the competition. Over at South Park following their fantastic midweek Surrey Senior Cup over highly fancied Kingstonian our heroes followed this up with a superb result against Diss Town from the Eastern Counties League.
Two first half goals from David Smith and Justin David set them well on the way and things were looking good. A nervy second period then followed resulting in the visitors pulling a goal back to reduce the deficit courtesy of Danny Easley. Chances at both ends were created but our boys held on to produce a wonderful result and secure their progress and in doing so setting for themselves a bit of club history. I would imagine there were a few celebrations in that neck of the woods Saturday evening – quite rightly so. Really well done guys we eagerly await the next round draw.
Over at Hanworth Villa the wonderful “never know when you are beaten” motto lives to fight another day. The 'Villains' or as we should really call them 'Heroes' had to twice come from behind against a very good Herne Bay side who are currently flying high in the Kent League. Byron Walker gave the visitors the lead in the 76th minute only for Lawrie Shennan to take the tie into extra time.
Rob Lawrence restored 'Bays' lead three minutes into extra time – enter James Woods who snatched a dramatic equaliser two minutes from the end which they richly deserved.
Replay for this one is on Wednesday in Kent – should be another cracking game Bobby and his team know they will have to be at their very best on a bigger pitch but this tie is far from over. Good Luck Hanworth.
On the league front the leading sides all won. Guildford City our reigning Premier Division Champions brushed aside Banstead Athletic 4-1. A brace from Dan Moody plus a goal apiece from Austin Gacheru and Jaydon Gibbs enough to ensure they remain five points clear. Steve Knahore netted the Banstead consolation goal.
Second placed Windsor won 3-2 against Badsot Lea while third placed Egham Town were 4-1 victors following their trip to the Moatside ground. Tom Hedges grabbed a brace, Matt Graves and Enrico Rossino were also on target for the visitors. Sam Robinson converted a late penalty for Epsom by way of a consolation goal.
Troubled Camberley Town remain in fourth spot following their 4-1 home success against Ash United while in fifth spot you will find Horley Town who, depite manager Ali Rennie currently being in Cuba, will be delighted with their 4-0 win at Farnham.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division briefly, Colliers Wood won 4-3 against Molesey and to round things off Dorking and Wembley ended all square – 0-0 this one after a weather delayed start.
In Division One, leaders Guernsey conceded a home league goal against Cobham for the first time this season but still remain firmly in the driving seat. 6-1 this one finished. Bedfont Sports and Hartley Wintney shared 4 goals and third placed Staines Lammas hit four without reply from their trip to Sheerwater. Fourth placed Eversley followed up their impressive midweek cup result with a 4-2 home success against Bookham. No joy for bottom of the table Farleigh Rovers who went down at home to Spelthorne Sports.
Looking at the week ahead before closing Friday Night football this week will be at Knaphill who welcome Guernsey, No doubt keen to put aside their disappointment at suffering a 0-2 reverse at the hands of Feltham Saturday afternoon. Hopefully the 'Knappers' like all of our other Friday matches will be rewarded with a bumper crowd like our previous other Friday matches have produced so far this season.
Just enough space for me to wish Hanworth Villa the very best of luck in their F.A. Vase replay Wednesday evening and as always folks I look forward to being back with you next week.
Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 27th November 2011
Hello again and welcome To 'Seven Days' our weekly scribe of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League & a little bit more.
Following their recent success in the F.A. Challenge Vase we are delighted to announce that following the draw for the Third Round Hanworth Villa and South Park have both been rewarded with home ties against Herne Bay and Diss Town respectively. These ties are to be played on Saturday 3rd December – we wish both clubs well as they seek further advancement in this wonderful competition.
Monday evening saw Ash United welcome Crystal Palace for a Surrey Senior Cup 2nd Round tie to their H.Q. at the Shawfields Stadium.
Attended by a healthy crowd of 117 those who were present were treated to an even first half with both sides playing some neat football but found it hard to find a way through until just on the stroke of half time when Jimmy Norman hit a low shot past Palace keeper to give Ash a welcome first half lead. The second half was more of the same really until midway through proceedings when Palace equalised through Luke Croll.
However, minutes later he was stretchered off with a nasty head injury – concussion and broken jaw (everyone at Ash wish him a speedy recovery) this meant a reshuffle at the back for Palace and Ash took advantage of this and retook the lead through Karl Dallaway. In the final ten minutes Ash scored two more excellent well struck goals from Adam Beale and Phil Hornbrook, their first goals for the club. 4-1 the final score and their reward for this tremendous result is another home tie sometime in January when the visitors will be Woking.
Tuesday evening saw Banstead Athletic and Mole Valley SCR in Surrey Senior Cup action. Both sides received home ties against former CCFL clubs, Godalming Town and Chipstead respectively. In a rather one sided affair at Merland Rise, Banstead were to progress no further and on the night went down 6-1 to their opponents while Mole Valley although putting up a brave fight lost by a single to nil.
Aldershot Senior Cup football was the order of the evening over at Sandhurst Town. Ashford Town manager Paul Burgess put out a mixed team for this fixture. goals from Russ Canderton after twelve minutes and Jim Mann ten minutes later put the visitors in the driving seat although to be fair the 'Fizzers' refused to be beaten and certainly made quite a good game of things. Eventually in the 85th minute they were rewarded with a goal from Luke Turkington but in the end this was nothing more than a consolation as the visitors held on to record a 2-1 victory.
Three Premier Division matches took place Tuesday evening. Chessington & Hook United picked up three very useful points from their trip to Cove thanks to a 3-0 victory. Badshot Lea and South Park drew one goal each.
Last but not least Windsor travelled over to Farnham Town knowing that victory would take them to the top of the table. Barely two minutes had been played when Jack Dillon put the home side ahead. Always looking capable of pulling back this small deficit, Windsor were rewarded with a peach of an equaliser in the 41st minute courtesy of a Ryan O'Toole free kick. In the second half Windsor went in search of a winner but to no avail – 1-1 the final score.
Elsewhere Raynes Park Vale Reserves crashed out of the Surrey Premier Cup going down 7-1 at home to Walton & Hersham Reserves.
Division One saw just the one fixture and it was Knaphill who recorded their first win since the 3rd September which was also new manager Phil Ellery's first as Knaphill manager with a convincing and comfortable win over Bookham at Redding Way.
The 'Knappers' could and should have doubled the score line but had to settle for four first half goals. A brace from Michael Pym and one apiece from Craig Knowles and Matt Ward, his first for the club as the home side blew their visitors apart with some great attacking football - something that the home club had been lacking for quite a while, 4-0 final score.
On Wednesday evening there were just three games involving our teams. Firstly Feltham welcomed C B Hounslow United for a Second Round El records Premier Challenge Cup match. Rather a one sided affair this one as the visitors hit five without reply on their hosts and will now face Cobham in the next round.
In the same competition, but a round further on, Guildford City entertained Wembley and in the main had their captain Simon Cooper to thank for keeping their interest in the competition alive. On two occasions he equalised for the home side to take the tie to a penalty shoot-out which they won to secure for themselves a place in the quarter final.
Just the one Premier Division game saw Croydon and Hanworth Villa play out a 1-1 draw at the Sports Arena. A Steve Loveridge own goal gave the home side the lead on the hour mark then with roughly five minutes remaining Adam Baigent made sure the visitors went home with a point.
A brace from Austin Gacheru plus one apiece from Joel Hughes and Jack Guilford were enough to ensure that Guildford City remain top of the Premier Division following Saturday's round of league fixtures. Their latest success secured following their trip to Ash United. Hot on their heels are Windsor who, thanks to a 53rd minute effort, from Ryan O'Toole secured the three points that were up for grabs at Stag Meadow against Epsom & Ewell.
Third placed Egham Town were beaten 2-1 at South Park for whom second half goals from Chris Smith were enough to secure the points. A brace from Matt Griffith over at Vale Farm were enough to put Camberley Town into fourth spot with a victory over Wembley. To complete the top five placings it took a very late goal for Hanworth Villa from Laurie Shennan to end the resistance of Chessington & Hook.
One of the surprises of the day was the 0-2 home reversal Horley Town suffered at the hands of Dorking. Elsewhere Molesey scored three without reply against visitors Sandhurst Town and a solitary goal for Badshot Lea was enough to send visitors Colliers Wood United home pointless.
Premier Division basement boys Mole Valley SCR went down 0-3 at home to Cove and finally the games between Croydon and Farnham Town and Raynes Park Vale vs Banstead Athletic ended all square 1-1 and 2-2 respectively.
Division One pacesetters Guernsey with their 100% home league record entertained Hartley Wintney and ran out comfortable 4-0 winners thus preserving their record while second placed Bedfont Sports beat Feltham 6-1.
Third placed Staines Lammas played host to bottom of the league side Farleigh Rovers who put up a spirited performance against their high flying hosts from the outset. No quarter was given in a fast flowing first half which on another day could have seen the Lammas going in at the interval at least four goals to the good – huge credit though to Farleigh as honours were even going into the interval.
Second half went very much the way of the first with the home side continually probing for a goal without success until the 76th minute when substitute Gary James won a penalty having been fouled. He duly stepped up to convert and secure all three points.
The away team's goalkeeper pulled off a number of fine saves towards the latter stages and even though Farleigh had a player sent off they could have pulled off a remarkable draw in the dying stages with a terrific cross shot across the Staines Lammas box but it was not to be and Staines Lammas ran out worthy winners.
Finally for this week folks, over at Sheerwater, Knaphill recorded back to back wins for the first time this season much to the delight of the new management. Pym scored just before the interval followed up with a second half wonder goal by Kemo Maphala who wriggled around five Sheerwater players before smashing home from twenty yards to secure the points.
Back with you next week – Have a Good Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 20th November 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly epilogue of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a Little Bit More.
Monday evening saw Windsor safely progress through to the quarter finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy following a 4-1 win over Shrivenham at Stag Meadow.
This was the third match that had to be played at the second time of asking and like the two before it resulted in a victory for Windsor. Windsor started strongly but were given an early scare when Aaron Maximen picked out Sam Roberts with his header that had to be cleared off the line by Fergus Moore. The home side took a deserved lead midway through the half when a quick throw in from Dave Tilbury saw Ben Porter cross for Yashwa Romeo to knock in from close range. The lead lasted at best a couple of minutes as Shrivenham were soon level when a Michael Silvans cross found Elliot Knight unmarked at the far post and his simple lay off to Sam Roberts was easily finished.
If Windsor fans thought that Shivenham's response was quick Windsor's was even quicker as from the kick off Dapo Abitogun raced through the visiting defence to finish off by firing past Richard Hanley. Ryan O'Toole effectively settled the tie before half time when he was put through by Abitogun leaving only Hanley to beat and Windsor's top scorer duly lifted the ball over the keeper for the third goal.
Windsor came out in the second half looking to extend their lead even further and when Romeo struck from thirty yards it looked like they had until the ball struck the outside of the post. Shrivenham then did the same at the other end when Maximen found himself clear of the defence and only Rob Bullivant to beat but he failed. Chances came and went for Windsor to put any doubt as to the result and it wasn't until the final couple of minutes that Romeo finally added the fourth, having already attempted to try his luck from thirty yards he then tried slightly closer getting the desired result to ensure a home quarter final against Newport Pagnell Town on a date to be decided.
Job well done by Windsor and most of the crowd of 75 went home satisfied with the outcome.
Tuesday evening saw an array of fixtures involving many of our sides. Two Premier Division fixtures were played at Dorking and Ash United respectively. Dorking put last Saturday's defeat at home to Camberley firmly behind them with a comfortable win over Sandhurst Town.
Goals from Billy Ramsey in the tenth minute and leading scorer Leroy Hyett in the 27th minute were enough to secure a 2-0 victory to make it three wins out of four for the 'Chicks'. All the more pleasing was the clean sheet kept in the absence of regular keeper John McBride who was injured the previous Saturday. The ex Bookham keeper deputising really well for the home side. This result gives Dorking the league double over the 'Fizzers' and at the time of writing gives them a points total so far this season of 23 points.
Very briefly ever improving Raynes Park Vale visited Ash United and came away
with a good three goals to two victory.
Over at Cobham the home side were keen to gain revenge for their last visit from Guernsey in the Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup. The home side did just that and were victorious on the night – 3-2 the final score.
In brief, Wembley bowed out of the Middlesex Senior Cup going down 0-1 at home to Harrow Borough. In the Middlesex Help For Heroes Charity Cup 2nd Round Bedfont Sports went down 2-3 at home to Harefield United. Badshot Lea were due to play Frimley Select but this game failed to get under way as the visitors were unable to raise a team. Westfield were involved in Southern Combination Cup duty and their efforts were rewarded with an impressive 6-1 home victory over Reading Town – my apologies to all for no being able to provide goal scorers in many of these games.
Finally Tuesday evening Farnham Town Reserves recorded a good 4-1 home victory against Frimley Green reserves.
Just two games played Wednesday evening and the leap frogging around the top of the Premier Division continued as Guildford City returned to the top of the table following their 3-1 win at the Spectrum Arena against Farnham Town. The A31 derby was settled without Guildford City really needing to step out of first gear as Farnham Town were seen off on a cold evening at the Spectrum. Goals from Jack Guilford, Dan Moody and Joel Greaves came before Matt Bunyan reduced the deficit late on. 3-1 the final score in front of a crowd of 48. This was an ideal result for the home side in preparation for their F.A. Vase trip this coming Saturday 19th at Lancing.
And finally for our midweek round up congratulations are in order to our friends Staines Lammas who recorded an impressive 5-1 victory against Enfield 1893 in their Middlesex Premier Cup Second Round tie Wednesday evening.
And so now we can reflect on activity out and about Saturday afternoon.
For four of our teams it was F.A. Vase activity with a mixture of results commencing at Hanworth Villa who welcomed much fancied Deal Town to Rectory Meadows.
On a superb sunny Saturday afternoon and the pitch looking better than Wembley (the big one I mean) what could be better than watching an absorbing F.A. Vase game. Both sides made their intentions known from the start with Deal Town playing an effective get it forwards quickly game, whilst Hanworth Villa tried to play their short passing game.
As early as the first minute a defensive mix up between Adam Baigent and goalkeeper Tony Buss almost presented Deal Town with the ideal start (no pun intended). However it only took until the fourth minute for the visitors to go ahead after a quick counter attack and good work by their number seven. The game then settled down and Hanworth Villa started to exert some pressure and in the 28th minute after a good passing move Laurie Shennan slotted home the equaliser putting the ball in the net via the post. Both teams tried to take complete control but the score remained level at half time.
The second half began in a similar vein to the first but slowly Hanworth Villa started to take control and a series of good chances went begging as Deal Town thwarted each attack and still managing to look dangerous on the break – hitting the post after a fortunate deflection. Then in the 78th minute after a good series of passing Leon Phelayn got free on the right and put in a great cross for Laurie Shennan to finish with a great header. Hanworth Villa always looked in control but Deal Town did not give up and at 2-1 they went looking for a goal to take the tie back to Deal Tuesday evening.
On 90 minutes after a good shot from the edge of the box Anthony Oakes put the rebound of the Deal keeper into the back of the net and the game was won.
Special thanks to the match official who refereed the game in what can only be described as the old fashioned way with good solid challenges and allowing the game to flow. He drew praise from the crowd especially the older generation who remembered how the game used to be played before tackling became a skill most players have lost.
So rightly so the Man Of The Match was given to the Referee.
Over at Egham Town it took a 66th minute goalkeeping error to settle this tie against Cowes Sports and it was the visitors who came away with the spoils. South Park are safely in the draw following their 3-0 home truimph over Fawley AFC.
Not such good news for Guildford City though they went down by the odd goal in three to Lancing following their trip to Sussex which is where yours truly spent his Saturday afternoon.
Having left home here in Northampton very early (7-45am) if I said my journey was interesting then that was an understatement. All seemed to be going to plan until I go to I guess about fifteen miles of my destination only to discover that the train in front of me decided to break down and delay my arrival.
I eventually arrived at Lancing Station shortly before 2-30. Thankfully the ground was just a short distance away so any thoughts of missing the kick-off were brushed aside. Once at Culver Road, for those unaware this is where Head Office is for the Sussex F.A, I met up with several travelling Guildford City folk who like myself were quite confident that our reigning Premier Division Champions could progress further.
After a nervy start by both teams Lancing took the lead on ten minutes via goal scoring sensation Shaheen Sadough which was a bit harsh on the visitors but thats football for you. 'City' really deserved to go into the half time interval on level terms but spurned a golden opportunity in the 39th minute when it looked harder to miss than score.
Second half things got a bit more frantic with both sides giving away silly free kicks, but eventually in the 72 minute Joel Greaves levelled the tie up – game on much to the dismay of the home faithful. With the clock running down it was that man Sadough who with a bit of help from his hand put the home side 2-1 in front again and this was how it finished and sadly it meant the end of the road for Guildford City. Not a classic by any stretch this game for many reasons but I do feel when a game is blighted with a stop start scenario it can be very frustrating to watch especially when you know that on their day Guildford City should have on paper won this tie – sadly though it was not to be.
By way of a slight consolation my return journey was far better than the outward journey.
On the league front, fourth placed Camberley Town defeated basement boys Mole Valley SCR 4-0 thanks to goals from Stacey Thripp, Adam Cornell, Matt Griffiths and Rob Carrick. Horley Town, who are in fifth spot, came away from Cove 5-1 victors thanks to goals from Kevin Lock (3) and a brace from Kyle Hough one of which was from the penalty spot.
A Matt Jarman brace was enough to secure a 2-1 victory for Epsom & Ewell against Croydon whose first half penalty at the time levelled the match. Farnham Town defeated visitors Banstead Athletic 2-0, Luke Whiddett and a penalty from Ben Williams were enough to secure the points.
Final Premier Division report comes from Chalky Lane (Thanks Gareth) where the home side took a third minute lead against Ash United following a corner. However the visitors levelled on 14 minutes when Karl Dallaway bundled home a low cross then just before half time Liam Ralls put the visitors 2-1 to the good.
The second half was evenly fought with both teams trying their best to score again. Despite having a player sent off with ten minutes to go Ash held on to record their first league victory since the 13th September.
In Division One leaders Guernsey brushed aside their midweek cup defeat at Cobham and registered a 5-1 victory against hosts Warlingham thanks to goals from Ross Allen (2), Matt Loaring, Chris Mauger and Jason Winch.
Two goals from Saman Kanani plus one apiece from Gavin Bamford and Jack Watts were enough for second placed Bedfont Sports to come away from South Kilburn 4-1 victors.
Hartley Wintney picked up another handy three points following their trip to the Orchard at the expense of Feltham. Spelthorne Sports were 4-2 victors at home to Eversley while Westfield only needed a single goal to defeat Frimley Green.
Elsewhere in Division One Worcester Park had a good day at Cobham, 6-2 was the margin of their victory. Other notable results were Bookham 0 Staines Lammas 6, C.B. Hounslow 2 Knaphill 1, Farleigh Rovers 5 Sheerwater 2 and so in conclusion Guernsey remain 11 points clear at the top after today.
Back with you next week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 13th November 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to another helping of 'Seven Days' our weekly helping of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a little bit more.
Over at Stag Meadow Monday evening Windsor F.C. crashed out of the Premier Challenge Cup following a 2-1 defeat against Division One side Spelthorne Sports. Windsor manager Keith Scott decided to rest five of his regular starters with one eye on Saturday's trip to Cove and a less than inspiring first half saw Spelthorne go in ahead at the break with the only chance in the half when Mark Banfry sent Jamie Read tumbling in the area earning the visitors a penalty which Read converted. The second half again saw a lack of chances with Windsor coming close when Dave Tilbury's header from Ben Porter's corner was tipped over the bar. Spelthorne doubled their lead in the final minutes when they managed to clear a Ryan Parson's free kick allowing Jeddie Atiase to break before setting up Read to hit a low drive past Banfry. There was still time for Windsor to pull a goal back in injury time when Porter set up Yashwa Romeo for a sublime lob over Mark Pisani.
On Tuesday evening Sandhurst Town showed a great fighting spirit when beating Hellenic League Leaders Flackwell Heath in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy. The 'Heathens' went ahead with a hotly disputed goal in the 18th minute, but a brave second half fightback saw the 'Fizzers' home thanks mainly to keeper Matt Watson and his heroics between the sticks which seemed to inspire his team mates with goals from Sam Knowles (62nd minute) and Steve Eyango Bwanga (80 minutes) making it a happy night for the home faithful. This result was sweet revenge as it was Flackwell Heath who knocked Sandhurst out at the semi final stage last season. As a result of this fine victory Sandhurst have again received a home tie in the next round – Abingdon Town will provide the opposition.
No such County cup luck for Horley Town who went down 0-4 at home to Walton & Hersham in their Surrey Senior Cup tie.
Three Premier Challenge Cup Second Round ties were also played on Tuesday evening but regretfully, due to a serious injury the Badshot Lea Vs Mole Valley SCR match had to be abandoned after 13 minutes due to a serious injury to Badshot’s Jamie Hoppitt. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Over at Dorking an eight goal thriller with Farnham Town was the order of the evening. The 'Chicks' were two goals to the good inside the opening 35 minutes courtesy of efforts from Leroy Hyett and Joe Chandler but Farnham were not going to roll over without a fight, scoring three goals in seven second half minutes through Matt Bunyan in the 55th & 62nd minute plus one from Mark Corbett in the 58th minute. In the end though it was Dorking who triumphed, winning by five goals to three.
Raynes Park Vale with two previous league wins behind them made it three wins out of three at the expense of Bedfont Sports – 4-0 the final score at Grand Drive.
Cup kings Hanworth Villa were involved in Middlesex Charity Cup action and secured their progress with a good 4-1 victory away at the Robert Parker Stadium. On target for the Villains were Levi King (2), Lawrie Shennan and Joe Johnson. In addition to this there was one Premier Division game played Wednesday evening at Colliers Wood United which ended all square at 1-1 against Cove.
On Friday evening Guildford City got back to winning ways as Badshot Lea were beaten with relative comfort with the hosts returning to the top of the table in the process. A Simon Cooper wonder strike and a Dan Moody penalty settled the game in front of a bumper crowd of 130 spectators at the Spectrum. Manager Kevin Rayner described the win as 'totally the right response' following Guildford's first league defeat of the season last week to Colliers Wood United which at the time dropped them two places in the league.
Going into Saturday's games, Egham returned to the top of the table following a good 3-2 victory at Croydon. Dale Marvell, Tom Hedges and Luke Muldowney were on target for the visitors whilst Windsor registered a 7-1 assault on Cove over at the Oak Farm Fields, with braces from Kyle Anthony, Yash Romeo and Joe Chandiram plus one from Ben Porter.
South Park were surprisingly beaten 3-1 at the Moatside Ground against a mid-table Epsom & Ewell side. The result putting them out of the top four.
Camberley Town, thanks to goals from Louis Hibbert (2), Adam Cornell (2) and Matt Griffiths, recorded a 5-1 success at Dorking which moved them into the top four.
Hanworth Villa were again amongst the goals following their trip to Molesey and find themselves nicely positioned in fifth spot. They won 6-1 and the Villans have games in hand on all above them.
Fast improving Raynes Park Vale, thanks mainly to a Peter Hickford hat-trick, had another good day, their latest scalp being Chessington & Hook where they triumphed 4-1.
Basement boys Mole Valley SCR once again failed at home going down to a solitary goal to visitors Sandhurst Town.
Division One pacesetters Guernsey are now 11 points clear of closest challengers Bedfont Sports following their latest success over Feltham. Guernsey were the better side but the visitors acquitted themselves very well, having a goal bound opportunity cleared from the line after twenty minutes. Ross Allen opened the scoring on 33 minutes with a good solo effort and the home side created more chances during the first half but failed to add to their tally and went into the interval with a solitary goal to show for their efforts. In the second half Feltham came out positively and changed their approach, giving more support to their single forward, but Ross Allen scored the second for Guernsey on the 79th minute receiving the ball in the box before turning to shoot into the roof of the net. About two minutes later Feltham had a goal bound effort saved after a quick breakaway.
At the end of the match Feltham were applauded off the pitch by the Guernsey crowd for their efforts, the visitors having performed well especially their back four. The record crowd of 1752 along with media coverage from Sky Sports were well entertained.
A Dan Simmonds hat-trick and a Jack Keenan penalty gave Frimley Green their third successive win and a second win in two games for the new management team of Paul Miller and Ian Maynard. Dan Simmonds opened the scoring for Frimley Green in the 4th minute and set the tone as several chances followed. Some good saves from Wayne Sturman in the Bookham goal kept the visitors in the game but he was unable to prevent Simmonds making it 2-0 on 28minutes. In the second half Frimley Green continued to put Bookham under pressure and they gave away a penalty on 71 minutes which Jack Keenan coolly slotted home. Dan Simmonds rounded off the scoring with his third goal on 90 minutes to give Frimley a well deserved win.
Second placed Bedfont Sports registered a 7-1 home victory over Sheerwater, Warlingham were 2-1 victors at Eversley, and Staines Lammas were 3-0 victors at home to Cobham.
Other Division One results were Hartley Wintney 0 South Kilburn 0, Knaphill 2 Farleigh Rovers 2 and last but not least Westfield 1 Worcester Park 2, fresh from their recent cup success against Molesey.
Looking ahead to next Saturday which is F.A. Vase 2nd Round day. I would like to wish all our competing teams well and hopefully when the draw for the next round is made several if not all our teams will be in that magical hat.
Have A Great Week.

Seven Days – 6th November 2011
Welcome everybody to 'Seven Days' our weekly review of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a Little Bit More.
Four Premier Division games on Tuesday evening resulted in wins for Egham Town, Badshot Lea, 4-1 at Cove, Hanworth Villa, 5-3 at home to Ash United and Windsor, 4-1 at Wembley. Goals from Yash Romeo on 36 minutes and Ryan O'Toole just on half time put Winsor ahead. Daryl Atkins pulled a goal back for the home side just on the hour mark. Windsor hit back with two more courtesy of Carl Anthony and another from Ryan O'Toole in the 88th minute.
Egham Town were made to work quite hard for their 2-1 success at the Runnymede Stadium, goals from Marcus Moody after 18 minutes and Dale Marvell on 50 minutes set them on their way. Jamie Newby pulled one back for the visitors from Sandhurst but it was the home fans who celebrated victory.
On this same evening there were several Surrey Premier Cup First Round ties played out and about. Pick of the wins for our sides were Cobham 5-2 victors at Chipstead reserves, all in all though we faired very well.
Wednesday evening Farnham Town travelled over to Imber Court for a Surrey Senior Cup 2nd Round tie. Despite a good effort Met Police progressed to the next round as a result of their 4-2 victory.
Again there were a couple of Surrey Premier Cup First Round ties played resulting in victories for Warlingham 5-3 against Worcester Park and Horley Town Reserves 4-1 against Knaphill.
Friday evening Premier Division football was provided over at Colliers Wood where the home side welcomed league leaders Guildford City. Report as follows: Guildford City suffered a league defeat for the first time since April as Colliers Wood United capitalised on two defensive errors either side of half time to turn this match around.
Joel Hughes headed City into a 23rd minute lead during a first half in which the visitors impressed with some excellent movement up front. They failed to take their chances though and were made to pay at the end of the first half. In the 45th minute, Elvis Defreitas passed back to goalkeeper Antony Hall, the ball bobbled/skidded/vaporised past his foot and rolled agonisingly into the corner of the net to level the scores.
City were then caught in possession in the first moments of the second half and Colliers Wood were able to swing a perfect cross into the box and Nathan Turner headed home unmarked. It got worse from then on as the hosts played neat football barely giving City a sniff for the next twenty minutes. Once when a stranded Hall was rounded by Marco Embalo and then Joe Mead netted from the penalty spot.
A double substitution eventually brought Guildford to life, Jack Guilford and Ben Rayner both went close with shots coming back off the post. City were granted a lifeline in the 81st minute when Ben Camara got a touch to Simon Cooper's shot, but the comeback wasn't to be – 4-2 final score in favour of the hosts.
Second placed Egham Town took full advantage of this result and leap-frogged over City following their 3-0 success over Chessington & Hook. A Matt Graves brace and last gasp effort from Tom Hedges was sufficient to give us new Premier Division leaders.
Moving up to second spot were Windsor following their 4-2 win over Horley over at Stag Meadow. A brace from Yash Romeo plus one apiece from Ryan O'Toole and Kyle Anthony were the Windsor scorers while the Horley efforts came from an own goal and Darren Tidey. This result dropped Horley a couple of places and they now sit in sixth spot.
Chris Smith & Georgie Smith were on target for South Park who moved up to fourth spot following their 2-1 home success over Farnham Town.
Camberley Town went fifth after their 4-0 success against Epsom & Ewell. A Matt Griffith brace plus efforts from Rob Carrick and Adam Cornell enough to send the visitor’s home empty handed.
A late Daryl Atkins goal was enough for Wembley to secure all three points at Vale Farm where Croydon were the visitors. Hanworth Villa picked up another three points following their 4-1 success at home to Sandhurst Town. Banstead went down 0-2 at home to Dorking. Just to wrap things up in the Premier Division basement boys Mole Valley SCR had a good day winning 3-0 at Badshot Lea.
Following their good result against Mole Valley a week ago, Raynes Park Vale picked up another very useful three points at the hands of visitors Cove. 3-1 this one finished. Simon Moore with two goals on 12 minutes & 79 minutes plus a Junior Lemoha effort on the half hour putting them well on the way. Right at the end though, Andrew Harewood pulled one back for the visitors – 3-1 the final score.
With Guernsey hosting Ash United in the EL records Premier Challenge Cup 2nd Round and recording a 4-1 victory, the chasing pack in Division One all picked up good wins. Bedfont Sports 2-1 at home to Westfield and Eversley 8-0 at Sheerwater and Warlingham 3-0 at home to South Kilburn. This is just a brief round-up of Division One activity.
Over at Worcester Park EL Records Premier Challenge Cup was the order of the day as they hosted Premier Division opposition in the shape of Molesey in this First Round tie.
Six goals and 2 red cards, quite a feisty encounter this tie. The hosts three goals to the good just after the half hour, then two quick red cards, one from each side. Molesey then pulled it back to 3-1 and on 67 minutes made it 3-2 – game on. Just on time the hosts made it 4-2 to progress to the next round. Some of the football was really good overall though far from a classic by any stretch.
Back with you next week.

Seven Days – 30th October 2011
Here we are again, Welcome Everybody to 'Seven days', our Weekly helping of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League and a little bit more.
Monday evening, over at Stag Meadow, Windsor welcomed once again Camberley Town for a re-arranged league fixture that previously fell victim to the dreaded floodlight failure.
A bumper crowd of 328 who received free admission saw the home side triumph 2-0 thanks to two early second half goals which temporarily moved them up to second spot in the Premier Division.
Three additional Premier Division games were played Tuesday resulting in Horley Town, thanks to two second half goals from Kevin Lock and Ben Herdman, leaping into second spot. Additionally, South Park were 3-1 victors at Banstead Athletic and Hanworth Villa who recorded the same score line at home to Raynes Park Vale.
Also on Tuesday evening, despite taking a 19th minute lead through Lewis Longhurst, Croydon bowed out of the Surrey Senior Cup over at Redhill where two late penalties from Aaron Murphy and Billy Medlock saw Redhill progress to the next round.
Wednesday evening saw Badshot Lea bow out of the Surrey Senior Cup following their 1-4 home reversal to Dorking while on the league front there was just one Division One fixture. Current leaders Guernsey notched up a 3-1 victory at the Robert Parker Stadium in front of a very healthy crowd of 275. Ross Allen hit another brace one of which was from the penalty spot and Kieran Mahon to give the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead. George Baldock then reduced the arrears in the 70th minute from the penalty spot, overall Guernsey collectively put in a very good shift and were very good value for their 3-1 success over Staines Lammas – next stop Bedfont Saturday afternoon for the Green Lions.
Despite a brave effort Hanworth Villa bowed out of the F.A. Challenge Cup over at high flying AFC Totton.
Roared on by a travelling contingent in the region of some 250 the Villains were equal to their Southern League Premier Division hosts during a first half that exploded into life in the 42nd minute. Jonathan Davies skipped around three Villa defenders before firing home from close range to put the Stags one up.
It took Hanworth Villa just two minutes to respond when, man of the match Lawrie Sheenan, played in Levi King who slipped the ball past keeper Grant Porter for the leveller. In an amazing end to the first half, Totton regained the lead in the 45th minute following a Davies cross which was poked home by Nathan Campbell at the far post.
The second period saw Totton gain more control of the game and they went close on a couple of occasions. It took the Stags until the 81st minute to find some breathing space when Charles flicked the ball over his head from inside the centre circle and Nathaniel Sherborne ran on to slot the ball past Terry Buss.
Villa never gave up and reduced the arrears in added time when Duane Antonio capitalised on a defensive error to make it 3-2. Sadly, there wasn’t enough time for the visitors to find a dramatic equaliser that would have put them in the hat for the next round and so it is AFC Totton who go into the First Round proper for the first time in their history at the expense of our hugely brave league members who have done themselves and our league great pride and recognition during their epic run.
On the league front third placed Windsor earned a 2-2 draw at leaders Guildford City as the title race hots up. Goals from Ben Porter and Yashwa Romeo put the visitors 2-0 up after half an hour before Ben Camara reduced the arrears at the interval. Dan Moody weighed in with a late penalty to level things up and this was how it stayed – 2-2 final score.
Second placed Horley Town went down 2-1 at Sandhurst Town. A second half brace from Junior Akonor set them on the way before Kyle Hough reduced the arrears but this proved to be just a consolation as the Fizzers held on to record an impressive 2-1 victory.
Egham Town leaped up to second spot following their impressive 7-1 win at Cove whose goals were evenly shared out. Camberley Town who earlier on in the week went down to Windsor at Stag Meadow lost 2-0 to visitors Croydon through goals from Claudio De Almeida and George Gledhill.
Goals from Dale Burgess, Chris Smith and Kieran Lavery moved South Park up to a top five slot. Molesey were 3-0 victors at Farnham Town thanks to goals from Manny Quarshie, Lewis Ackerman and a penalty from Joe Pratley-Jones.
At the foot of the table I was treated to a seven goal thriller over at Cobham where Mole Valley welcomed Raynes Park Vale. Peter Hickford opening the scoring for the visitors with barely a minute played, this was then doubled on 16 minutes courtesy of Gavin Bolger. Matt Harmsworth reduced the arrears on 25 minutes, all of a sudden this gave Mole Valley a spring in their step – game on, chances either end were then created. On 41 minutes Liam Holden coolly slotted home a penalty and we went into the interval all square at 2-2.
The second half exploded back into life in the 59th minute when Theo Gechev put the visitors 3-2 up. Vale then restored their two goal advantage on 70 minutes thanks to Dave Mosley. Barely a minute later Liam Holden doubled his scoring for the afternoon to bring it back to 4-3 in favour of the visitors, this was how the game finished. It was good entertainment for us neutrals, and I thank both teams for providing really good entertainment value.
Division One leaders Guernsey following their success against Staines Lammas visited Bedfont Sports who at present are themselves riding high in the division.
Don Heaume gave the visitors a dream start in the third minute, he then doubled his tally for the match during the first half to put them in the driving seat. Second half things became somewhat bad tempered and Bedfont had one of their defenders red carded for a challenge on Kez Mahon – Ross Allen from the spot made it 3-0, still there was time for Mahon to receive a second yellow to level playing numbers much to the bemusement of the hundred or so travelling Green Army of supporters.
Eventually Bedfont did pull a goal back but Guernsey held on to record another very good victory – 3-1 final score, as for the chasing pack Eversley, Warlingham, Spelthorne Sports, Staines Lammas and Hartley Wintney all picked up maximum points from their games, one thing for sure is that Division One is very interesting this season as is the Premier Division.
In our Reserve Division, Warlingham are still in poll position five points ahead of their nearest challengers, Eversley, who do have a game in hand on them followed by Farnham Town who also have games in hand.
That's it for this week folks, I will return next week with another chunky helping of chat for you.
Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 23rd October 2011
Hello and Welcome to another helping of 'Seven Days' our weekly review of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a Little Bit More.
Headline makers again this week are Hanworth Villa who, following their credit worthy draw last weekend at Beaconsfield against Slough Town, followed this up with a delightful 3-1 victory over their Evo Stik Central Division opponents at The Ranch on Tuesday evening in front of a crowd of 592. They now progress to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Budweiser sponsored F.A. Challenge Cup and a trip to AFC Totton on Saturday 29th October.
Once again The 'Villans' brushed aside their, on paper, superior opponents despite going in at the interval 0-1 down after Sean Sonner had given the visitors a 20th minute lead.
Only the players know what words of encouragement were said at half time and they certainly worked as they brushed aside a stunned Slough side by scoring three goals in the second half courtesy of a brace from Levi King and another from Shaun Preddie to and end the evening 3-1 victors.
I am led to believe that this is the first time we, as a league, have had a team that have gone as far as this in the competition. We should congratulate one and all on their incredible efforts and will certainly be looking out for their result at Totton to see if they can continue to progress especially considering once this next tie is out of the way the football league boys enter the competition.
On the league front, it was six games unbeaten for Windsor who, thanks to first half goals from Fergus Moore, Yashwa Romeo and Ryan O'Toole, picked up the three points at Raynes Park Vale – all this despite encountering a few travel problems while getting to the ground, 3-0 final score.
Over at Chalky Lane, visitors Colliers Wood, turned in a fine performance to avenge their recent F.A. Cup defeat. Mario Embalohad a deflected shot well saved early on and Kadir Kone, in the Wood goal, was quick off his line to force a Chessy striker to fire his opportunity over the bar. Embal had another decent strike deflected, in addition Ryan Hughes saw his drive blocked as defences stood firm for both sides.
Wood looked more threatening as the second half opened up and a fine Embalo pass to Ryan Hughes saw the latter's fierce drive crash back off the crossbar. Nathan Turner replaced Chris Gregson and it was he who broke the deadlock on 71 minutes when he turned on the edge of the box and his somewhat scuffed shot went in off the keeper's right hand upright.
Chessy looked stunned and were more dumbfounded three minutes later when Embalo's delightful chip sailed over the keeper to just about secure the points. Danny Cormack replaced the bright Cornell McKay for a rare appearance and he slotted straight in. Turner saw a shot hit the post, Embalo had a header well saved and Ryan Hughes saw another shot deflected wide as the visitor's finished well on top. Kone had an outstanding seasonal debut in the Wood goal.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division on Tuesday evening, South Park, despite taking an early lead, went down 1-3 at home to Wembley, Sandhurst Town also went down by the same score line at home to Banstead Athletic – goal scorers for the 'As' were Leon McDowell, Ben King & Taylor Mollatt.
Wednesday evening a crowd of 75 were in attendance at The Spectrum where Guildford City played host to Chertsey Town in a Surrey Senior Cup tie.
Those fortunate enough to be in attendance were treated to a nine goal thriller in a topsy-turvy match which was settled in the 89th minute thanks to an Eddie Smith goal to make it a 5-4 score line in favour of the visitors. City you feel, only have themselves to blame for this score line missing two penalties during the furious affair.
Guildford kicked off the scoring in the 7th minute, Jack Guilford capitalising on a mistake by the Chertsey backline to drill home. Soon after though it was all square as Phil Page slotted in following impressive build up play from the visitors, and they soon took the lead for the first time when Tom O'Regan rifled in a left footed effort from the edge of the area after racing onto a long ball from defence. In between those goals, however, Guildford won themselves a penalty after a trip on Moody but Austin Gacheru could only send the spot kick low and wide.
City did go into half time level though thanks to Ben Rayner's strike as a free kick into the Chertsey box caused havoc. Guildford then took the lead for the second and final time in the match as Simon Cooper's spectacular free kick found the top corner from 20 yards on 50 minutes. Within seconds, however, Chertsey had equalised. Smith grabbing the first of his three, heading in a precise cross, minutes later they went 4-3 up thanks to Smith again, finishing a low cross from namesake Miles clinically just before the hour mark.
Guildford rang the changes to try to remain in the game as Page missed a opportunity prior to Dedrah and Banton-Brown's inclusions. Successfully, they paid off as a long ball into the box found the head of Dan Moody who just about reached the ball before the Chertsey keeper and nodded into an empty net.
At 4-4 the game was there to be won and Guildford were given a real opportunity to seal the win as the referee awarded them a second penalty. Cooper took this one but keeper Lee Pearce redeemed himself by pulling off a terrific save down to the right.
Cruelly, Smith then snatched the win from under City's nose as the tie dwindled towards extra time with a well taken finish which proved to be the winner. 5-4 it ended in an encounter which Guildford City will feel they should have won had they taken their chances.
Saturday was F.A. Vase day for several of our clubs, three of whom secured their safe passage through to Round 2. Commencing my brief round-up F.A. Cup kings Hanworth Villa booked their place with a 3-1 victory over local rivals Bedfont Sports.
As is so often typical in local derbies there is often so much frenetic action resulting in very few clear cut chances. Shaun Preddie opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a looping header that the Bedfont keeper should have done better with. Goal machine Levi King doubled the Villains advantage on the hour following a good series of passing moves. Initially the visiting keeper pulled off a good save but he then spilled the ball leaving Leroy to do what he does best 2-0.
Barely four minutes later poor marking from a corner saw Stuart Bamford pull a goal back with a good header – game on. 10 minutes of nervy football from Hanworth and the possibility of Bedfont nicking an equaliser things became a bit disjointed. Leon Phelon was then upended in the box and Adam Baigent secured the victory from the resultant penalty. So all in all a good well contested game which Hanworth made a bit more difficult than they should have. Credit to Bedfont though they pushed their hosts and might have got a bit more out of the game.
Over at Erith after a bright start from both teams with chances at each end Farnham Town fell behind on ten minutes, this was then doubled five minutes later. Farnham then had a couple of chances but not enough to trouble the Erith keeper, just before the break an own goal gave the hosts a convincing 3-0 interval lead.
Farnham started the second half well and had a couple of good chances through Brad Smith. Erith soaked this up and were rewarded with a fourth goal when another cross from the right hand side and a first time shot from the edge of the box ended up in the bottom corner, four became five after 65 minutes.
Farnham did manage to pull back a consolation goal on seventy minutes with a goal from Luke Whiddett only for the home side to add another one ten minutes from time to make it 6-1 and round off a disappointing day for Farnham Town.
Raynes Park Vale travelled to Sussex side Peacehaven & Telscombe. The first 20 minute were all Peacehaven and Raynes Park could not keep hold of the ball. After that period, in which the home side should have been a couple of goals to the good, the match became more even and both sides created good opportunities. Raynes Park came out in the second half and broke the deadlock with a great far post header. This was short lived and Peacehaven were back in the match soon after.
As both sides pushed for a winner it was Peacehaven that broke through and slotted home from a 1 on 1 and five minutes later virtually the same situation made it 3-1 to the home side. A score line that flattered Peacehaven but Raynes Park Vale need to make more of the chances that they create.
Egham Town secured a very good 3-0 victory over Greenwich Borough and South Park a 1-0 success over Colliers Wood United, so as a league we do have a few representatives in the next round.
In the Premier Division, over at Vale Farm, Player-Manager Ian Bates started his 800th game for the Lions against Epsom & Ewell on Saturday. He created two of Wembley's goals in a 4-1 win, flicking the ball on for Talwo Edun for Wembley's second goal and then delivering the free-kick for Daryl Atkins to score the third. Adrian Dinham had opened the scoring for the Lions, Mark Jarman on target for the visitors and Atkins wrapped up Wembley's second home win of the season by making it 4-1.
Fifth placed Windsor, who of late have been in a rich vein of form, fell apart with a shock 1-0 reversal at home to bottom club Mole Valley SCR. A 63rd minute Liam Holden effort was enough to secure the points for the visitors.
Division One pacesetters Guernsey hit another four without reply against basement boys Farleigh Rovers thanks to goals from Luke Winch and a hat-trick from Ross Allen to bring his tally for season so far to 25 league goals.
My travels on Saturday afternoon took me over to Mill Lane where Bookham welcomed Feltham. Not a classic it would be fair to say. An opening goal after just 42 seconds from Scott Breslin got the game off to an interesting start for the hosts. Feltham levelled the match on 36 minutes through Luke Edghill only for them to fall behind again on 62 minutes, again the Bookham scorer was Breslin.
During the latter stages of the contest Bookham lost their goalkeeper who received a straight red card for a handball offence and from the subsequent free kick the replacement goalie pulled off a tremendous save to preserve their lead plus a bit of pinball defending but they held out to secure a 2-1 victory over their visitors.
Back with you next week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 16th October 2011
Welcome One & All To 'Seven Days' the weekly review of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a little bit more.
Over the past week many of our member clubs have been involved in a host of competitions from league matters to national cup competitions plus other bits and pieces in between.
Epsom & Ewell drew 1-1 at Dorking Tuesday evening. Epsom had a good opportunity to take the lead on around 39 minutes when a disputed penalty was awarded for a foul on the edge of the box. Their regular penalty taker sustained an injury just before the penalty incident which resulted him being substituted. Dave Francis stepped up to take the penalty but he placed it too near the Dorking keeper who only had to move slightly to the right to make a comfortable save.
On the stroke of half time Epsom & Ewell were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out to the goalkeepers right. Substitute Freddie Myers floated the ball into the box and a combination of a high bounce caused it to elude a number of players and the ball ended up in the back of the net via the crossbar and give the visitors a deserved half time lead.
The second half was memorable for two things, the Dorking equalizer, after a period of fairly sustained pressure, and a number of bookings and three players being sent off. It wasn't a nasty game but there were three bookings and one sending off for two bookable offences for Dorking and two bookings and two sent off for Epsom & Ewell, one of which was shown after the final whistle.
Dorking equalised through Leroy Hyett from the penalty spot on the 77th minute after a foul. Epsom & Ewell's Freddie Myers capped an eventful night for himself by being shown a straight red card after the penalty was awarded presumably for dissent. After Dorking equalised Epsom & Ewell did have a couple of chances to win, but overall a draw was probably a fair reflection.
Wembley, 2010/11 EL Records Premier Challenge Cup beaten finalists, needed to win a penalty shoot-out to overcome first division near-neighbours South Kilburn and progress into the third round of this season's competition. The decisive kicks from the penalty mark followed a very non-descript 120 minutes lack lustre contest ending goalless after extra time.
S.K. were equally ineffectual, although they did have the only worthwhile strike on target in the 15th minute. A blistering strike from David Aquaviva which the flying Wembley goalkeeper Arlys Moreira managed to push onto a goal post. Although the game did improve with age nothing significant altered the score line and so it was down to penalties to sort out the outcome, and it was Wembley who triumphed 5-4 and progress into the next round.
In the Middlesex Premier Cup Staines Lammas travelled over to Rayners Lane and were rewarded with an emphatic 5-0 victory.
The match was played in perfect conditions on a well kept playing surface. After early exchanges it was Lammas who broke through in the tenth minute with an excellent effort from Steve Wilmore direct from a corner.
In an open first half both sides moved the ball well and produced a series of chances to score and Rayners Lane should have equalised when their centre forward shot wide having been put through with only the Staines goalkeeper to beat. The first half produced no further goals and with only a few minutes remaining Rayners Lane were reduced to ten men when they had a player sent off for a second caution, this proved to be a pivotal moment.
The second half was an entirely different affair with Staines taking full advantage of the extra man and they completely dominated, netting four more times without reply courtesy of Matt Baxter, George Baldock, a thirty yard effort from Matt Brunt, and finally from Chris Bullen.
All in all Staines ran out worthy winners in front of a decent crowd and they can now look forward to the next round – currently we are awaiting the draw but we wish them well.
In the Aldershot Senior Cup, Sandhurst Town progressed into the next round after they defeated Ash United 3-1 at the Shawfields Stadium. Sandhurst started the game very well and inside 20 minutes were 2-0 up. However, slowly Ash got back into the game and pulled a goal back as well as having one disallowed for offside.
The second half saw Sandhurst score another early goal and were well in control until the last 15 minutes when Ash went close with a shot that hit the post. However, Sandhurst held firm and now play Ashford Town in the next round.
Having played Basingstoke in the Hampshire Senior Cup earlier on in the week and lost out in a 3-2 reverse, Hartley Wintney returned to the Camrose hoping to maybe going one better. Sadly though four first half goals by the Conference South hosts put paid to that and the wonderful journey through to the third qualifying round came to an end. 4-0 the final score but looking back on the journey this season victories over Bashley and Bideford previously prove that in the F.A. Cup anything is possible – Thanks for the great memories guys you have done yourselves and our wonderful league proud with your efforts.
Hanworth Villa – The Villains following their match with Slough Town at Beaconsfield live to fight another day and go into the hat again following their fantastic 2-2 draw.
The game got off to a very fast pace and the hosts had the ball in the back of the net but it was disallowed, barely two minutes later they took the lead though when Chris Herron made no mistake. Hanworth began to show their mettle and they equalised eight minutes before the interval when Lawrence Shennan fired a testing effort from the right via the underside of the bar.
The Rebels regained the lead on 56 minutes when Paul Coyne ghosted through a hesitant defence. Ten minutes later Steve Sinclair tried to beat one too many and subsequently lost the ball to keep the visitors (our heroes) still in with a chance of pulling the tie level again.
Villa were then awarded a free kick (Enter Levi King) and wow he hit his 30+ yard kick with such sweetness and desire that it was all square once again – where are the BBC cameras when you need them. This was to put it politely something special and very much to the delight of the hoards of travelling fans and gracious applause of several of the home fans.
Both defences held out till the end of the game and so it is back to Rectory Meadows Tuesday evening and another bumper crowd which for this match was 525. Massive congrats to Hanworth Villa on another breath taking performance, we will be eagerly awaiting the draw for the next stage and so very proudly your name is in the hat aswell.
On the league front, Premier Division leaders Guildford City stretched their lead at the top following their 1-0 win at Raynes Park Vale. Austin Gacheru netting the all important winner after 32 minutes.
Egham Town moved up the table following their 4-3 victory over Dorking. Matt Groves and Tom Hedges (2) put the home side three goals to the good only for Dorking to level matters thanks to a Martin Smith brace and Craig Duffell who was then red carded. Brendan Matthew then scored a dramatic stoppage time winner for the Sarnies.
Horley Town dropped a place to third following their 1-0 reversal at Chessington & Hook and Camberley Town dropped to fourth spot following their 2-1 reversal at South Park whose goals came from Kieran Lavery and Matt Ward.
A goal apiece from James McShane and Ross Chalke were enough for Molesey to secure a 2-0 victory at Mole Valley while over at Stag Meadow Windsor beat Colliers Wood 2-0 thanks to a brace from Ryan O'Toole.
To round results off in the Premier Division, Croydon beat Badshot Lea 5-1, Epsom & Ewell won 4-1 at Ash United, and Wembley and Banstead shared four goals at Vale Farm.
Friday evening Cove and Sandhurst produced a seven goal thriller at Oak Farm with the hosts running out 4-3 winners – no further detail is available but hopefully like Ash recently a good crowd turned up – they will have been well rewarded.
Division One saw Guernsey return to winning ways following their 3-2 success against Bookham. Eversley and Bedfont Sports shared four goals in a very entertaining encounter. Cobham scored six without reply at Knaphill, while over at Worcester Park they defeated Frimley Green 6-4 in another hugely entertaining encounter.
Briefly, South Kilburn and Spelthorne Sports registered 1-0 home victories over Westfield and Feltham respectively and Farleigh Rovers and Staines Lammas recorded 3-2 home victories over Sheerwater and Warlingham.
And so another week has drawn to
a close and for me it is almost time to sign off. Before closing though folks
earlier on during the week we heard that Phil Coe the happy go-lucky match secretary
at Hanworth Villa had been admitted to hospital following an illness –
great news he was able to be in attendance at their F.A. Cup match Saturday
much to the delight of everybody connected with the club and his many hoards
of friends within our wonderful league – me included.
Good Luck in your replay Hanworth Villa we are very proud of you.
Back with you again next week - Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 9th October 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly helping of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a little bit more.
With no league fixtures played over the midweek period much of the focus was spent on The EL Records Premier Challenge Cup whereupon several 1st & 2nd round ties took place.
In a First Round tie, over at Woking Park, Westfield bowed out at the first hurdle after losing in a penalty shootout to CB Hounslow United.
Simon Sheppard opened the scoring for Westfield shortly before halftime when he smashed home a generously awarded penalty. Second half the visitors took control of the game and eventually got their equaliser two minutes from time to take the tie into extra time.
During this additional period both sides pushed for a winner, especially Westfield in the final ten minutes, but in the end the tie was settled on penalty kicks which saw the visitors progress to the next round and an away tie against Feltham.
There was worse news for Westfield as influential forward Simon Sheppard was carried off with a nasty looking ankle injury.
Over at Knaphill, despite coming from behind twice, the home side fell at the first attempt to a very lively Epsom & Ewell side who probably on another occasion would have scored more than the three they did to send them through.
Epsom it would be fair to say dominated the game but credit the home side they did put in an encouraging performance and were rewarded with goals from Perry Coles and Craig Knowles. Dave Francis and a Nathan Ayling brace were on target for the visitors.
On another day Epsom may well have registered an 8-0 victory for all their possession and effort but still they progress to the next round.
Over at The Runnymede Stadium hosts Egham Town made light work of defeating Eversley 5-1 thanks to goals from Marcus Moody, Matt Greve (30 and Brendan Matthew. Joshua Wright scored for the visitors who also had a player sent off.
Next stop South Park, where visitors, Sandhurst Town, ended up victorious following a penalty shoot-out. From start to finish this game tossed and turned, against the run of play Sandhurst took the lead midway through the first half, Steve Eyango Bwanga setting the visitors on their way. After the break things were starting to look bleak for the home side when Ross Hogston doubled the 'Fizzers' advantage but South Park refused to lie down and were rewarded with two late goals to send the tie into extra time. This extra period was something of a non-event and so it was down to penalties for the right to progress and it was the visitors who progressed to the next round.
In the Middlesex Junior Cup First Round tie, a young Bedfont Sports Reserves bowed out of the competition going down 3-1.
Wednesday evening saw Guildford City edge through following their 2-1 success at the Spectrum against Hanworth Villa.
Another long range effort from Tony Chaplin started the scoring. Villa levelled the tie almost immediately when Lawrence Shennan finished off a rebound after a save from goalkeeper Michael Hall. Joel Hughes netted the winner in the 83rd minute. Jack Guilford had a chance to put the result beyond doubt but his header was saved.
The final whistle was delayed by nearly ten minutes after Hall was left out cold on the ground following a collision with a Hanworth striker. He groggily left the field and stand in keeper made a simple stop before final whistle.
Thursday evening saw Westfield reserves bow out of the Surrey Intermediate Cup going down 0-4 at home to Horsley.
Saturday saw the Premier Division leaders move five points ahead following their 4-0 success at the Spectrum against Chessington & Hook United. Two late goals from Luke Bradnick put the gloss on an excellent performance.
Although the hosts laboured for the first twenty minutes Chessy had a number of good chances to go ahead. Dan Moody opened the scoring on 32 minutes with an excellent finish. Ben Camera doubled the advantage after the hour mark and the visitors appeared to lose their resolve. The two late goals scored by Luke Bradnick in quick succession rounded things off for the hosts.
Over at Sandhurst those present were treated to a seven goal thriller against Windsor who by the 26th minute were three goals to the good. Sandhurst pulled a goal back but went into the break 3-1 in arrears.
Inspired by this the home side came out second half hoping to build upon the goal they scored but on 70 minutes Windsor hit them with a fourth goal. This setback spurred Sandhurst on though and additional goals from Chris Fernie and Liam Eagle put the home side back in contention, Windsor managed to hold on though to register a 4-3 victory. You would think they were relived when final whistle blew as the hosts went looking for a dramatic late equaliser which was not in the end forthcoming.
Unlucky for some but not Mole Valley SCR who picked up their first league win of the season at Farnham Town. 2-1 the final score in favour of the visitors. Mark Corbett scored for the hosts while Richard Smith (Penalty) and Liam Holden did the biz for Mole Valley.
Division One highlights saw league leaders Guernsey go down 2-1 at Spelthorne Sports despite Ross Allen giving them the lead. These two sides recently met in the league cup and the 'Greens' secured victory then by a solitary goal to nil, Spelthorne were no doubt delighted to gain revenge.
My Saturday afternoon was spent over at Sheerwater where South Kilburn were the visitors. Four goals were shared in this 2-2 encounter, Nathan Johnson put the visitors ahead just after the quarter hour mark, barely fifteen minutes later Dan Bennett then equalised. The visitors then went up the other end inside a minute to go 2-1 up through Bertie Williams. Kirk Smith on 68 minutes ensured that each team were rewarded with a point each at the end of play.
As a person who is always interested in observing how our clubs serve their communities it was wonderful to see this match for the hosts was treated as a 'Community Day' which I thought was a great innovation in these modern days of non league football. The club although like so many work so very hard to promote themselves but often to no avail, on this occasion though an attendance of around 40 many of whom I hope will like what they saw & will return credit Sheerwater especially Trevor Wenden for his continual efforts to promote this really pleasant club. – You will always be assured of a warm friendly welcome there, I wish them well.
On a sadder note though news came through this past week that Ken Huckle who for several years was our Referee's Secretary is in hospital recovering I hope from a serious chest infection and we all wish him a full and speedy recovery.
To end on a brighter note our friends from Knaphill have recently appointed David Freeman as their new Chairman and wish him well in his new post. David is a very well known and admired gentleman who was the unanimous choice of the Knaphill committee – he replaces Terry Chapman who previously held the post at the club for two and a half years.
In advance of my notes next weekend I wish both Hanworth Villa and Hartley Wintney every good wish in their F.A. Cup ties at Slough Town and Basingstoke respectively.
Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 2nd October 2011
Hello Again & Welcome to another helping of 'Seven Days' our weekly recollection of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a little bit more.
The week got under way with our friends Windsor playing host to Shrivenham in The Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy over at Stag Meadow.
Windsor came into the game off the back of a 3-1 F.A. Vase reversal at the hands of Flackwell Heath just a couple of days previous hoping to put aside what must have been a huge disappointment for them. Once again manager Keith Scott had to make changes to his line up with a number of key players, mainly through injury, not being available.
The visitors took an early lead which they held on to until the 71st minute when due to floodlight failure the game had to be abandoned and so they must do it all over again.
Tuesday evening four of our sides were involved in F.A. Vase Replays. A wonder goal from Jordon Vidal was enough to send Bedfont Sports through at the expense of Wembley in a very cagey match at Hatton Road.
Success and progress was also achieved by Farnham Town who secured an 8-7 penalty shout-out victory over Hassocks at The Memorial Ground.
No such fortune for Feltham though as they bowed out against Abingdon Town. Again this tie was settled during the extra time period – 4-2 final score, in favour of the visitors. Luke Edgehill netting both the Feltham goals.
Briefly, in the Aldershot Senior Cup Fleet Spurs defeated Camberley Town 4-2 on penalties and Hanworth Villa booked their place in the next round of the Southern Combination cup following their 6-1 away success against Staines Lammas.
On the league front Horley Town came from behind to score two late goals to send visitors Croydon home pointless thanks to goals from Kyle Hough and super sub Darren Tidy, the winning goal coming in the 88th minute.
South Park registered a 1-0 victory over Ash United, a solitary goal after ten minutes from Kevin Lock secured the points for the home side.
Following seven defeats on the spin Chessington & Hook United returned to winning ways picking up a good 4-1 victory at Merland Rise, both they and Banstead ended the match with ten men.
Raynes Park Vale went down 0-4 at home to Molesey in our other Premier Division match.
Friday evening Ash United welcomed Cove to the Shawfields Stadium and were rewarded
with a gate figure of 209. Within a minute Cove took the lead following some
poor defending allowing Matt Steer to slot the ball home from a right wing cross.
Cove continued to dominate the opening 20 minutes but slowly Ash got back into the game and levelled on 43 minutes through Charles Dukes, his first for the club.
The second half started well for Ash when on 53 minutes a Craig Moore freekick evaded everyone and the ball found the back of the net. However, 5 minutes later Cove were level when David Ocquate slotted home after he pounced onto the loose ball after Ash's keeper, Danny Gowler, had saved a point blank shot. Both sides pressed hard but in the end had to settle for a point each.
Saturday was again F.A. Cup day for Hartley Wintney and Hanworth Villa. Both
teams were rewarded with home ties against Bideford and Aveley respectively.
Having had the pleasure of being in attendance at Hartley Wintneys delightful
previous round victory over Bashley, could they do it again against so called
superior opposition. In an evenly contested first half it was the visitors who
drew first blood in the 43rd minute when Kevin Squire fired home from close
range to take an interval lead.
In the second half, like the first, Hartley began to show urgency and drew level with a stunning strike from Jermaine Hamilton. The ex-Farnborough striker then put the home side in front from the penalty spot after Ryan Stephens was upended by the Bideford keeper.
Hartley continued to dominate and were unlucky not to increase their lead as Hamilton, Peltohaka and Stephens had chances to put the game beyond Bideford's reach.
Another brilliant result for Nev Roach and co at Hartley then one of which we should all be very proud of as a League.
Could Hanworth do similar damage to superior opposition over at Rectory Meadows?
I left Northampton shortly after 9am under no false illusions especially as Aveley just a few days earlier registered a very impressive 3-0 victory over a very highly rated Canvey Island side. Enter my arrival at Hanworth and, my oh my, what a sheer delight it was for me to be present for this little gem.
First impression when I arrived was what a smashing place this is and the day got better and better as I went searching for another giant killing encounter to add to my ventures in the previous round. All this before the game got under way aswell. It did not take me long to realise and appreciate all that is divine in the wonderful world of non-league football. Firstly I met that awfully nice chap Phil Coe (believe he is the match secretary at the club) among other talents. I then met up with Dave Brown (Club Secretary) proved to be such a delight. Quite understandably a match like this attracted a few ground hoppers from Blackburn and beyond as far as Wishaw in Scotland. No I am not kidding you, Eddie and Sandra came down especially for the game and to meet up with Dave & co. Many years ago Eddie and Dave played footie together when he was living down south.
With additional media interest the registered attendance was a very healthy 196 but with such a passionate atmosphere the ground was rocking with all good things football.
As for the game itself it took a second half goal from Levi King to separate the two sides, poor old Levi earlier had the goal at his mercy but somehow managed to put the ball wide.
Hanworth defended well, although from time to time rode their luck especially as Aveley hit the woodwork in both halves, firstly in the 17th minute when a 30 yard thunderbolt hit the underside of the bar and then Joey May had a header that did likewise seven minutes from time, but this was to be Hanworth's day.
Quality football was not overly forthcoming but bearing in mind weather wise it was a scorching October afternoon. credit where credit is due what was lacking in quality in my mind was erased on final whistle and the F.A. Cup dreams for Hartley Wintney and Hanworth Villa move forward one step further and especially at Hanworth where I spent the afternoon celebrations of superb effort and passion rewarded.
As for the clubhouse on Saturday evening, the party atmosphere continued long after I departed which was late(ish). I met some wonderful people especially Eddie and Sandra, Phil and Dave to name but a few. Apologies to everybody I missed for me it was a great day to be with you all. Just hope you get great rewards for your efforts on and off the pitch next time around.
On the league front, reigning Premier Division champions Guilford City drew 1-1 at Croydon. George Gledhill gave a bit of a surprise 34th minute lead but this was cancelled out by birthday boy Austin Gacheru after 42 minutes.
Camberley Town went down 3-1 at Egham moving then nicely up the table. Tom Hedges (2) and a Dale Marvell penalty netting for Egham and Louis Hibbert netted for Camberley.
Free scoring Windsor hit 11 without reply against Banstead Athletic. Congratulations to Mole Valley SCR who at the eleventh attempt picked up their first league point of the season against Wembley. 2-2 the final score from this one.
Goals from Jamie Dodd, Jason Winch and Dominic Heaume secured another three points for leaders Guernsey at South Kilburn. Bedfont Sports also continue to impress picking up another three points from their match with Frimley Green – Adam Turner begging a treble in this one.
Time for me to sign off now folks – Have A Great Week and I will be back with you next week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 25th September 2011
Following their success in the F.A. Challenge Cup last weekend, our clubs eagerly awaited the draw that took place on Monday. News reached us that in the next round both Hartley Wintney & Hanworth Villa face homes ties against Bideford and Aveley respectively. Both these ties are due to be played on 1st October and we obviously wish both clubs all the very best of luck.
Monday evening Erith & Belvedere played host to Croydon in a London Senior
Cup First Round tie. Mike Azzopardi gave the home side a 25th minute lead which
was cancelled out in the 87th minute by Richard Bromfield-Laing to take the
tie into extra time. However, with the additional period of 30 minutes barely
two minutes old floodlight failure brought an end to proceedings for the evening.
Tuesday evening Ash United and Windsor fought out a 1-1 draw at the Shawfields Stadium. The visitors started brightly and could have had a couple early goals had it not been for some great saves from Ash's keeper Danny Gowler. Windsor continued to have the better of the half but Ash held firm until half time.
In the second half Ash came into the game more but on 65 minutes Windsor were awarded a penalty which Ryan O'Toole tucked away. Further chances were still created to increase their lead but to no avail and on 80 minutes a freekick saw Karl Dallaway climb highest to send a flick header past the Windsor keeper to level matters and this was the way it stayed – 1-1 final score.
Badshot Lea were, on the same evening, playing host to Horley Town who were hoping to put their F.A. Cup disappointment behind them. This was duly achieved thanks to another workmanlike performance especially from Kyle Hough who gave them a 1-0 lead just before the interval and then in the second half added a further two more goals to his tally for the evening. Badshot did pull one goal back but 3-1 in favor of the visitors was the final score.
In the El records Premier Challenge Cup 1st Round, Farnham Town made the short journey over to Krooner Park and registered a very good 3-2 victory over their hosts. In the next round again Farnham will have to travel but on this forthcoming occasion Dorking will provide the opposition.
A couple of Aldershot Senior Cup matches were played Tuesday evening Cove beat Farnborough North End 6-0 thanks to goals from messrs Harewood and a brace from Walters, while Hartley Wintney bowed out of the competition going down 1-5 to Yateley Green.
Bookham bowed out of the Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup going down 0-2 at home to Staines Lammas, Gary James scored both goals for the visitors.
Just the one Division One fixture on Tuesday evening, Westfield played host to league leaders Guernsey.
In front of Westfield's biggest crowd
of the season both sides started well on the excellent surface but it was the
visitors who took the lead on seven minutes following an effort from Matt Loaring
from six yards which appeared to be heading wide but was actually deflected
into his own net by Jamie Doble. Undeterred by this Westfield continued to press
and should have been on level terms but Tom Hegarty screwed horribly wide after
being fed through by Sheppard. The visitors looked dangerous on the counter
and Loaring saw an effort fizzle past the post after a 40 yard run.
Rob Jones up top was causing the visitors rear guard all sorts of problems with
his pace and directness but on two occasions saw his final ball lacking after
good approach play. On the half hour mark Brawley had to be at his best to beat
away Ross Allen's 20 yard effort and then up again to block Dom Heaume's follow
up.
Westfield continued to pull the strings and again Hegarty had a good chance which this time he just cleared the bar. The counter attacking threat of Guernsey was constant and they nearly doubled their scoreline but the ball was tipped over. Shortly before half time Ross Allen broke clear and fed Matt Loaring who doubled the lead by tapping into the empty net. This was a bit harsh on Westfield who had been on top for most of the half.
The second period saw Westfield continue to press with Jones mostly at the heart of the action. Simon Sheppard curled an effort just wide and Jones was thwarted by the visitors keeper as Westfield desperately attempted to find their way back into the match.
However, halfway through the second period Guernsey struck twice in quick succession to seal the match. First Ryan Zico-Black was first to react after Brawley parried Ross Allen's effort before Dom Heaume fired home to cap a superb performance. With Guernsey now firmly in control they began to knock the ball around with ease and fashion further chances and this time it was Westfield who looked to counter.
The visitors found a 5th in injury time as Ross Allen latched onto a long ball to lob the advancing keeper from the edge of the box. There was still time however for a streaker to enter the fray and perform the dancing Swann in front of a packed main stand.
0-5 was the final score which in ways was harsh on Westfield who will play much worse this season and probably win. As for Guernsey well you can see why they are so well supported both at home where they proudly sit in the top twenty nationally and away they help swell attendances. Tonight's was a creditable 325 by far the best Westfield have welcomed this season – Long May It Continue, oh and by the way the football is pretty good as well.
Just a couple of games Wednesday evening. Hanworth Villa secured three more league points following their 4-1 victory at Colliers Wood United and Cobham progressed to the next round of the Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup defeating Feltham 5-3 after extra time.
And so on to Saturday, for many of our clubs it was F.A. Vase Day and this is
where I begin my round-up.
Honours were even over at Hassocks where Farnham Town were the visitors. The home side should have taken an early lead but a goaline clearance by Darren Wilson saved Farnham who then had a good chance to take the lead when Corbett was played through but his effort went wide of the post.
Again an early chance in the second half gave the home side a chance to take the lead after the keeper from Farnham fumbled a cross but the reliable Wilson was on hand to avert the danger. Both sides tried to press for a winner but neither side managed any clear cut chances which meant extra time.
Just one minute into the additional period Hassocks took the lead with a lobbing shot from the edge of the box by P.Gault. Farnham kept pressing and on 115 minutes, after some good work from Brad Smith down the Farnham right, they got their reward when Corbett leveled the scores. 1-1 AET. Back to Farnham on Tuesday evening for the replay of this tie.
Bowing out are new boys Windsor following their 3-1 defeat over at Flackwell Heath, having lost eight players in the week prior to the match Windsor boss Keith Scott was forced to make several changes including youth-teamer Lee Galbraith and name a reduced bench.
Both sides had their chances to break the deadlock in an even first half. However, two goals in three minutes turned the tie in favour of the home side and for good measure added a third in the 83rd minute to effectively end the contest. Kyle Anthony did pull one back for the visitors but it was mere consolation – 3-1 final score in favour of The Heathens.
Wembley and Bedfont Sports have to do it all over again following a 0-0 stalemate over at Vale Farm. Over at Raynes Park Vale two additional extra time goals saw them triumph 5-3 against Newhaven – 5-3 this one finished.
Following their F.A. Cup exploits last weekend, Hartley Wintney rested a number of players for their midweek Aldershot Senior Cup tie but they returned to winning ways thumping Petersfield Town 5-1 and fellow F.A. Cup heroes Hanworth Villa secured their F.A. Vase progress with a good 3-2 win at Kidlington.
As a league in general we did reasonably well, sure there were a few surprises but then you will always get them in big competitions like this.
On the league front just two Premier Division games on Saturday saw Sandhurst
Town suffer a 0-1 reversal at the hands of Dorking. Leroy Hyett netting the
only goal after five minutes of play. While at The Spectrum Arena, in front
of a crowd of 135, honours ended even in the top of the table clash between
Guildford City and Camberley Town.
Adam Cornell gave Camberley a 47th
minute lead only for Austin Gacheru to level matters barely two minutes later.
Both sides did their best to carve out a win but it wasn’t to be. Personally
I enjoyed my trip and thank all from Guildford for making me feel welcome especially
Chris Pegman and my old friend Eddie Russell who I hadn't seen for several years
and not forgetting his lovely wife Ros who very kindly gave me a lift back to
the train station after the match.
Division One saw Guernsey score nine without reply against Sheerwater at the
Footes Lane Stadium. Ross Allen added another four goals to his tally for the
season plus further goals from Dom Heaume(3), Luke Winch and Matt Loaring.
This result now leaves The Green Lions six points clear with a huge goal difference as we come to the end of September.
Not such a busy midweek this coming week but let us hope for additional success from our teams who face F.A. Vase Replays.
However next Saturday Hartley Wintney and Hanworth Villa are in F.A. Cup action and we wish them well in their ties against Bideford and Aveley respectively.
Finally folks before I go just want to remind you that at The Shawfields Stadium next Friday Ash United play their Premier Division match with Cove – kick-off is at 7.30pm. Hopefully the ground hoppers amongst you will venture over there.
Have A Great Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 18th September 2011
Hi Folks and Welcome Again To 'Seven Days' Our Weekly Review of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a little bit more.
Despite putting up a very brave attempt last Sunday afternoon, Warlingham bowed out of the F.A. Vase slightly earlier than 12 months previous following their 3-2 extra time reversal at the hands of Farnham Town over at Church Road. The Sunday fixture boosted the home crowd to a healthy 86 on a bright sunny afternoon.
Throughout the duration of the game you were never quite sure as to which way the tie would be settled and both sides deserve to be applauded on their efforts in providing a good match to watch.
Tuesday evening three Premier Division matches were played. Chalky Lane was the place to be if you wanted to see goals – 11 to be exact as Chessington & Hook went down 8-3 to Egham Town and making it six defeats on the bounce for them.
Ash United were 3-1 home winners over Croydon. While over at Walton Road a brace from Mario Embolo in the 29th & 43rd minutes were enough for Colliers Wood United to secure a good victory against Molesey.
Additionally Tuesday evening, Westfield registered a 2-1 success over at Bedfont Sports in the Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup. Hartley Wintney crushed Team Solent 7-2 in the Hampshire Senior Cup. Eversley bowed out of the same competition at Christchurch 3-2 to the home side in this one.
Farnham Town won 3-1 in the Aldershot Senior Cup against Wrecclesham and last but not least Sandhurst beat Knaphill in the Southern Combination Cup.
Wednesday evening just the one game saw Warlingham register a 3-1 home success against Spelthorne Sports and on Thursday Cove booked their passage into the next round of the Hampshire Senior Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over at Andover New Street.
And so to Saturday, for five of our teams it was back on the F.A. Cup trail commencing at Hanworth Villa. With a large media presence in attendance covering this tie and in particular Wembley in the delightful “Wembley To Wembley” documentary which started at Ascot United last month.
Hanworth Villa took the spoils
on the day 1-0 thanks to a late Lawrie Shennan goal. It had been a tight game
but on the hour mark it opened up following a scuffle and clash of heads between
Hanworth's Steve Loveridge and Wembley's Toby Webb resulting in both players
being ordered off the field of play.
This seemed to give Hanworth the upper hand as they began to cause trouble
for the nerveous Wembley keeper Ini Amaegbe. Amagegbe was let off the hook
by the Hanworth attack a number of times after flapping at crosses and mis-kicking
a backpass.
Wembley did actually start the game brighter with top scorer Daryl Atkins
seeing one shot well saved and another fizz just wide. Wembley forward Adrian
Dinham was also causing Hanworth's defence problems but goalkeeper Terry Buss
was equal to him.
After both sides went down to ten men it was Hanworth Villa who took the initiative
and the ever-lively Lawrie Shennan seized on an Amaegbe save to get the deserved
winner.
Shennan admitted afterwards that during the week he had been suffering from
flu but his goal was the best tonic to see his club through.
One of, if not the, result of the round had to be Hartley Wintney 1 Bashley 0 which was where I spent my afternoon. Leaving my home here in Northampton just after 8am I made my journey over to the Memorial Playing Fields with massive hopes of a potential giant killing act added to the fact that I have always had such fond memories of days gone by. Manager Nev Roach, has assembled a super bunch of lads over there and everybody knew they were going to have to be at their very best to get something out of this game.
Just before the game commenced we were treated to a massive downpour and thunder but this turned out to be a performance that ranks amongst the best I have seen for many a year. A crowd of 155 were rewarded with a very keen contest which was settled four minutes from time courtesy of Dan Brownlie and boy did it feel good to see the ball go in the net. Credit to Bashley, they did their bit to make the game enjoyable to watch but it was Hartley Wintney who so richly deserved their afternoon of glory and you had to see the joy for one and all connected with Hartley on the final whistle – togetherness was an understatement. 'Massive Thanks' Nev and the boys for what you achieved on the pitch during the afternoon and equally thanks Luke and the back room team for making my journey to come and support you so very enjoyable.
Bowing out of the competition though were Horley Town who went down 0-4 at home to Dulwich Hamlet and Banstead Athletic who were mauled 1-9 by free scoring Maidstone United at Merland Rise. Last but not least another special mention to Staines Lammas who although they went down 3-2 at Chesham United certainly put in a massive effort but just lost out.
In the Premier Division Guildford City returned to top spot following a 4-1 victory over South Park, this after the visitors held a 1-0 lead going into the interval thanks to a goal from Matt Ward. City came out second half and thanks to goals from Austin Gacheru, Ben Rayner, Dan Moody and a penalty from Ben Camara ensured it was the home side who bagged the points.
Second placed Camberley Town did
not play, likewise this was the case Egham Town & Badshot Lea. Horley
as mentioned were on F.A. Cup duty while sixth placed Ash United fell victim
to another brace from Mario Embalo.
Epsom & Ewell went down 3-1 at Sandhurst while Molesey shared four with
visitors Croydon.
Dorking defeated Mole Valley SCR 2-1. Mark Corbett and Jack Dillon were on
target for Farnham Town in their 2-1 success against Raynes Park Vale while
league new boys Windsor secured a 3-0 success against Chessington & Hook
United with their goals coming from Ryan O'Toole, Ben Porter and Ben Huddle.
Division One leaders Guernsey were involved in Lemon Recordings Division One Challenge Cup action and a solitary goal from Ross Allen secured victory over at Spelthorne Sports in front of a healthy crowd.
Warlingham travelled over to Sheerwater
knowing that on previous visits they had never been beaten since joining our
league all them not so many years ago.
Two first half goals from Liam Neeves and Lucas Roache put the visitors into
a clear two goal advantage going into the break and things were not looking
good for the home side at that stage. It was not until stoppage time that,
from a clever cross from Jamie Hills to Andy Matthews who went on to shoot,
his effort was parried by the Warlingham keeper but lurking was Sheers forward
Kayooe Onalaja who made no mistake to present a possible comeback. This very
nearly happened when Sam Black, who’s shot was blocked by a visiting
defender with the keeper well beaten. It was not to be though and another
visit from Warlingham ended victorious.
Before signing off this week folks can I remind you that next Sunday (25th) over at Wey Court, Badshot Lea take on Spurs Legends kick-off 2pm in what promises to be a most enjoyable match. Gates Open at Midday with a whole host of events, do please try to get along if you can. Admission Prices are £10 for Adults along with concessions while a family of four can gain admission for £15.
As always I look forward to being back with you next week.
Have A Good Week - Enjoy Your Football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 11th September 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly helping of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League & a little bit more.
To get the show on the road this week we focus on six of our clubs who were
involved in F.A. Cup replays.
Two second half goals from Gary James and Shane Rideout secured progress to the next stage for Staines Lammas over at Harefield United to set up a thrilling tie for themselves at Chesham United. Lammas throughly deserved their win and perhaps the scoreline somewhat flattered Harefield, they created at least seven good chances to score but couldn't hit the target, man of the match Shane Rideout, nearly opened the scoring with a fantastic free kick from all of 35 yards which the Harefield keeper did extremely well to tip the ball over the bar. When Harefield did manage an attack they were met with the ever improving Dan Cox.
In the second, half Ben Jacob replaced the exhausted Ryan Copeland, Lammas took the lead when Gay James was brought down in the box. James dusted himself down and slotted home the penalty. 5 minutes later Shane Rideout hit the Lammas second goal with a well taken finish just inside the box.
The returning Steve Wilmore marshalled the midfield and Captain Ben Whatford was having a cracking game at the heart of the defence. It would be fair to say though that the whole team performed with great desire and deserve the right to progress further in the competition and a mouth watering trip to Chesham United – we wish them well.
Having snatched a stoppage time equaliser in the first match Wembley travelled to Ardley slightly the more relieved of the two sides and it did not take them long to get their noses in front in this replay. Barely 30 seconds had been played when Daryl Atkins headed over a stranded Joe White in the Ardley goal and set the visitors on their way. A second goal was then marginally ruled out for offside and then the home side started to get themselves back into the contest. However, on 38 minutes, a breakaway attack from Wembley resulted in them scoring a second goal again from Daryl Atkins.
The second half saw the home side push on but with Wembley defending in numbers any penetration was difficult. With 70 minutes played on the clock Ardley Manager, Kevin Brock, did a straight swap for front man Castello bringing on Andrew Stidder. Five minutes later Stidder repaid his manager when the Wembley keeper could only punch clear and Stidder volleyed into the back of the net to reduce the arrears – game on. Wembley managed to hold on for the victory, 2-1 final score.
Elsewhere a goal apiece from Lawrie Shennan and Joe Johnson secured the progress of Hanworth Villa over Bedfont Sports and Egham Town bowed out 2-3 at home to Merstham despite probably playing their best football of the season so far.
In the Premier Division, Camberley Town moved up to second spot following
their 3-2 success at Sandhurst thanks to a brace from Adam Cornell & Mike
Smith. The 'Fizzers' goals came via Vinnie Bond one of which was from the
penalty spot.
Mole Valley SCR are still looking for their first point of the season and
can count themselves unlucky not to have achieved that at Banstead. 2-1 final
score to the home side.
Badshot Lea beat Ash United 2-0 at Weycourt and Cove recorded the same scoreline
over at Farnham Town.
In a tame affair, over at Chessington & Hook United in the Southern Combination Cup, a goal apiece from Tom Dilloway on 69 minutes and an 89th penalty from Ross Chalke send Molesey through.
A couple of Reserve games were also played Tuesday evening at Frimley Green who went down 0-1 to Knaphill thanks to a Mark Harding goal and free scoring Westfield who hit Bedfont Sports for six without reply thanks to goals from Paul Merea(3), Jon Melia(2) and Mat Clarke to complete the 6-0 scoreline.
Finally folks on Wednesday evening Croydon recorded a 4-1 victory at home to Raynes Park Vale at the Sports Arena regret I do not have the scoring details to hand.
Saturday was F.A. Vase day for several of our teams. With a mixture of results
out and about so here is just a small selection of these games commencing
with Knaphill who played host to Horley Town in their first ever venture in
the competition which was another chapter in the club's 87 year history.
Redding Way was the setting for this eagerly awaited tie, sadly though from
their point of view their hopes were dashed by their Premier Division opponents
eventually being on the end of a 4-1 reversal. Knaphill were dealt an early
blow when defender Louis Sanders suffered a knee injury in the third minute
and he was then substituted with just eight minutes played by Nigel Hadley.
As early as the fifth minute Knaphill's Matt Burton was in action to deny
Horley scoring from a free kick as a header flashed just wide of the post.
Knaphill were then forced into making a second substitution after 27 minutes.
Matt Squires ankle injury forced him off to be subbed by Marcus Slimane. The
home side did actually have a fair amount of possession and created some neat
moves but these often broke down and lacked any sharpness in their finishing.
It was Horley who struck with an
opening goal on 29 minutes when Kyle Hough worked his way into the 18 yard
box and fired past Burton and into the far corner of the goal. In the 33rd
minute Ricky Hogsden saw his effort fly wide of the post, just one of limited
goal scoring opportunities for Knaphill to get on target. Horley's single
goal lead was soon increased in the second half, when a swift move ended with
Ben Herdman making it 2-0 for the visitors in the 50th minute. Just three
minutes later Adam Pullin gave Horley a commanding lead.
Knaphill still managed to show effort as the half progressed but were still
lacking that cutting edge. After 71 minutes, Slimane had one of the best chances
of scoring, but from ten yards out steered his shot wide of the post. Then
Joe Turner's opportunity went over the bar. Knaphill got a small reward in
the final ten minutes when Slimane's miscued effort was latched upon Halona
Masemba and the 16 year old pounced on his chance from close range to make
it 3-1 after 82 minutes. This was just a consolation goal as Horley struck
once again a couple of minutes later with a fourth goal and confirm Knaphill's
exit from their debut in the F.A. Vase.
Windsor secured a good 3-0 victory over Oxford City Nomads at Stag Meadow
thanks to goals from a Ben Porter penalty, after just three minutes, after
Paul davis was sent tumbling in the box followed up with a debut goal from
Abotigun and Kyle Anthony. The visitors also had a player red carded following
a horror challenge by Joel Meade on Ryan Ashe. Windsor
were good value for their win and also had additional chances to add to their
scoreline but in the end settled for a 3-0 success.
Frimley Green hosted Raynes Park Vale and actually created the first clear chance on seven minutes when Jordan Giddings hassled the last defender and forced him in to giving a short backpass which he intercepted but put narrowly wide. A minute later the Green broke down the right wing and with a couple of one-twos squared the ball back for Jake Hutson to drive home from 15 yards. Straight from the restart Vale broke forward and hit the post. Three minutes later though, they were level when Simon Moore scored from the penalty spot after the ball hit the arm of a Green defender who was lying on the floor. Barely two minutes later, Vale hit the bar and then on 18 minutes took the lead when Ato Andoh Okai took a free kick from out on the right touchline which sailed over everyone and dipped into the top left hand corner. Jordan Giddings pace again troubled the Vale defence as he burst through to go one on one with the keeper but again rolled the ball agonisingly wide of the post. Within five minutes he faced the keeper for the third time, but on this occasion pushed it too far and the keeper got to the ball first. From the quick throw out Raynes Park produced the best move of the game with a swift break down the right wing. A perfect low cross and excellent finish from Simon Moore to make it 3-1.
After the break Vale killed the game off on 46 minutes when Simon Moore completed his hat-trick. Although there was a slight suspicion off-side about it. It could have been five on 57 minutes when Vale hit the post again but Frimley Green didn't give up and had the ball in the net on 62 minutes after the Vale keeper, Dean Culpit, dropped a cross and Jay Coombs stabbed it home but the assistant referee gave a foul on the keeper. Five minutes later the Green scored again only to see the assistant referee signal for an infringement.
Finally, Raynes Park Vale put the icing on the cake on 72 minutes as Josh Gayle rose unchallenged to head home from a corner – 5-1 final score.
Elsewhere, Ash United bowed out going down 4-0 to Fisher Athletic who, although they had plenty of possesion in the first half hardly troubled the visitors, and who themselves hit the crossbar on the stroke of halftime.
Second half was very much the same as the first, but with twenty minutes to go, the referee awarded Fisher a penalty for an alleged handball which Jamie Turner tucked away. With Ash now having to chase the game Fisher doubled their lead on 80 minutes with a well constructed goal through Steve O'Donnell. Further goals from Jamie Turner on 84 minutes, although it did look as though he was fouling Danny Gowler at the time, and Junior James on 89 minutes completed a 4-0 defeat upon our league colleagues.
Today (Sunday) Warlingham and Farnham Town go head to head at Church Road for the right to progress.
A few other notable scorelines worth noting were Cove 4 Verwood 2 & Hailsham Town 1 Epsom & Ewell 3. Top scorers on the day were Hanworth Villa who inflicted an 8-3 mauling on Sandhurst Town.
The four Premier Division matches that took place Saturday saw reigning champions Guildford City surrender top spot following their 3-3 draw at Wembley in a see saw match that saw the hosts take a second minute lead through Daryl Atkins only for the visitors to square the match through Austin Gacheru and then sixty seconds later take the lead through Jack Guilford.
Parity was restored in the 23rd minute when Atkins eluded the City defence to score again. Four minutes from the break Wembley re-established the lead. Atkins breached the City offside trap once more to notch his hat-trick and send the home side in at half-time three goals to two in their favour – some opening 45 minutes eh.
The visitors put the Lions under pressure for most of the second half, but it appeared Wembley's 3-2 advantage would be enough. However with four minutes remaining, Chaplin's cross shot from the left drifted beyond the Wembley rearguard and into the back of the net to force a draw.
New Premier Division leaders now are Camberley Town who secured a 4-2 success
over bottom club Mole Valley SCR. Michael Blount scored a brace plus one goal
each from Martin Girling and Adam Cornell did the damage. Liam Holden and
James Brown scored for the home side to leave them still searching for their
first league victory of the season.
Egham Town put aside their midweek cup woes by inflicting an easier than expected 4-0 success over Banstead Athletic at the Runnymede Stadium.
In the other Premier Division match, Badshot Lea and Molesey shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Division One saw last season's champions Worcester Park take on Feltham at
Bedfont in a real scrap of a game with the home side taking the spoils by
virtue of a 3-2 victory.
Feltham took a first half lead through Simon Headland which they then doubled from a well worked corner that allowed Sory Dembele to head home. Worcester Park were then awarded a penalty to reduce the defecit. Luke Craig then wiggled his way through the opposition defence to restore the two goal advantage but with ten minutes left on the clock, Worcester Park reduced the arrears but it was not enough to secure any points from their trip.
Current Division One leaders Guernsey faced what looked a tricky trip to CB
Hounslow and the game swang to and fro until on 27 minutes the deadlock was
broken by Sam Cochrane. The game continued to switch from end to end but on
35 minutes, goal machine Ross Allen, made it 2-0 to Guernsey. Dom Heaume added
a third in first half stoppage time much to the delight of the travelling
contingent who were such great fun to be around and their side three goals
to the good.
The Second half was pretty much the same really good old football entertainment. Ross doubled his scoring for the afternoon on 65 minutes to make it 4-0 and that was how it finished.
From a neutral point of view you thought CB were a keen bunch of lads who on another day might have scored a couple of goals themselves but for Guernsey the dream continues and good luck to them they are a very good team to watch and who ever manager Tony Vance puts a green shirt on they were it with enormous pride and passion. Tt certainly was a game that I really enjoyed watching.

Chipstead Edge Out Brave Epsom & Ewell
Today (Sunday) 4th September Epsom & Ewell bowed out of the F.A. Cup for this season following a 2-1 home defeat inflicted upon them by Ryman Division One South opponents Chipstead, at The Moatside Ground in front of a crowd of 107.
'Chips' took an 18th minute lead in this fairly evenly matched contest which they then doubled on 56 minutes from messrs Goodchild and Wilks. However, on 70 minutes Jamie Summers reduced the arrears but it was not enough to avoid bringing to an end Epsom's hopes of F.A. Cup glory for this season.

Seven Days – 4th September 2011
With F.A. Cup football taking centre stage for a large number of our teams just two Premier Division matches took place on Saturday afternoon, resulting in Guildford City opening up a four point lead and Cove inflicting a seventh successive league defeat upon Mole Valley SCR.
Hartley Wintney travelled over to Arlesford Town and during the early stages of the match found the going quite tough against a very lively home attack and they were grateful to keeper Lee Allen who time after time produced some excellent saves. Eventually though, on 39 minutes, they took the lead thanks to Ryan Stephens which most definitely spurred them on and, within three minutes further, extended their advantage which they held going into the interval.
The second half began in the same way with the home side in the ascendency. However, in the 47th minute Hartley came close again when Andy Newcombe's shot across the goal narrowly avoided Stephens. On the counter attack, the home side reduced the arrears. Hartley continued to exert pressure and both Stephens & Hamilton were unlucky not to increase the visitor's lead.
In the 50th minute Hartley introduced Jack Coventry and the youngster with his pace caused problems for the home side, Stephens being unlucky not to score from a Coventry pull back. Ben Dillon and Dan Brownlie were then introduced for Hamilton and the injured Thorne in the 70th & 74th minute. Brownlie increased the lead on 75 minutes turning in a Dillon shot which the keeper could only parry and the home side then had a goal disallowed in the 81st minute.
Hartley finished off the scoring and the game when an individual goal by Ben Dillon in the 87th minute to secure a wonderful 4-1 victory.
Look out Hartley, next up Bashley: great result though Hartley and very well done.
Over at Crawley Down, Farnham made a bright start and were unlucky not to go ahead a couple of times within the first five minutes. Firstly from Matt Bunyan who, having been put through by Mark Corbett, shot straight at the keeper and then Craig Smith who volleyed just wide. On 40 minutes the home side thought they had taken the lead only for it to be cancelled out by a linesman's flag for offside.
Farnham started the second half slowly and paid the price on 67 minutes when Claude Seenia put the home side ahead. Both sides then created a few chances until the 90th minute when Matt Bunyan drew Farnham level with a shot from the edge of the box. With a replay on the cards Crawley Down made one last attack and scored in the 92nd minute through Hasan Nyang to put Farnham Town out of the Cup for another year. Last year Farnham went out to Hassocks again on the final kick of the match.
South Park ventured over to Erith Town but hopes were dashed when the Kent League side took a 28th minute lead through Billy Shinners who volleyed home from 15 yards. Park came close to equalising in the early stages of the second half, but the home side regained control and scored their second goal on 68 minutes through substitute Kirk King. Reports say that this was not a vintage South Park performance and thus they bowed out of the competition – 2-0 final score.
Badshot Lea played host to Chertsey Town in what was always going to be an interesting tie as both sides knew quite a bit about each other going into the game. Expectations were high for a good cup tie but in all fairness the match did not quite live up to it, the first half being fairly even, with neither side carving out any clear cut chances.
The second half was marginally better with Chertsey pressing well down the flanks, but Pegler in the Badshot goal didn't really have a shot to save. On the hour mark, Badshot Lea forced a corner but just before it could be taken there was an incident in the box between Sean Hankin from Badshot Lea and Jon Boswell from Chertsey Town. Without hesitation the referee red carded both players.
By now it was becoming questionable as to where a goal would come from but in the 83rd minute Chertsey scored what turned out to be the winning goal, when, following good work down the right, Oliver Burgess steadied himself and shoot well into the corner of the goal leaving Pegler with no chance.
Badshot Lea huffed and puffed but just couldn't find the equaliser, so it is Chertsey who face Lewes in the next round while Badshot now have back to back home league matches starting this Tuesday when they host Ash United and then next Saturday when Molesey visit.
On the subject of Badshot Lea folks, on Sunday 25th September they welcome the hugely entertaining Spurs Legends to Wey Court, kick off 2pm for a very special match that is always so enjoyable. The gates open at midday with a host of activities including a Pre-Match Penalty Shoot-Out and an auction amongst other events – do please try and get along. Admission Prices are £10 for Adults. However, a family ticket i.e. 2 Adults and 2 Children can gain admission for a mere £15 – it should be a great afternoon. More information on this match will be placed on the Badshot Lea website during the coming days.
Finally folks, report wise, yours truly ventured over to Chuch Road Saturday afternoon for the Warlingham vs Cobham Division One match which turned out to be a most enjoyable trip. Warlingham took an early lead through Dan Penfold but eventually went down 2-1 thanks to a rocket header from Scott Day. Then a second half winner from Jake Baxter, which secured Cobham’s first league win of the campaign.
It would be very wrong of me not to mention the third team out there as well as I felt the match officials Referee, Tim Gilmore, and his two Assistants, Ryan O'Sullivan and Steve Tyler, did very well to make the game so very enjoyable to watch and should be given a huge pat on the back – it was certainly hot out there.
Good Luck to Epsom & Ewell who entertain Chipstead on Sunday afternoon for the right to progress in the F.A. Cup. Next weekend the 2011/12 F.A. Vase gets under way and personally I love this competition.
Back with you again next week –
Have a great week.

Seven Days (Bank Holiday Special) 30th August 2011
Hello Again, Welcome to this our late August Bank Holiday Newsletter and a brief Round-Up of events on the field of play for Monday 29th August.
Over at Stag Meadow, in front of a crowd of 159, Windsor were looking to secure their first home league victory of 2011/12 against a Dorking side who, 48 hours previously, went down 2-3 at home to Colliers Wood United.
Windsor soon got themselves going and when Ryan Ashe slipped the ball through to Ryan O'Toole he crossed for Ben Porter but the ball just eluded him.
Claims for a penalty were turned down following a free kick that appeared to strike the arm of a Dorking defender following a Joe Chandiram free kick. O'Toole then forced John McBride into a good save before Mark Banfry did the same at the other end.
Windsor started well in the second half with an early chance falling to Chandiram that went low across the face of the goal.
A rare burst forward from Dorking saw Craig Duffel with only an on rushing Banfry to beat but the Windsor keeper was more than a match for the midfielders effort.
McBride was again the hero at the other end when he pulled off superb saves from two Ben Hudell free kicks and he would then go on to set up the eventual winner..
A quick throw out following a poor Windsor corner saw Martin Smith race through and when his initial effort was blocked, Hyett was on hand to stab in the loose ball. 0-1 final score.
Hanworth Villa were playing host to Egham Town in a fixture that took the best part of 52 minutes to really get going, in saying that though both teams could have easily taken the lead. Egham were rightly awarded a penalty and up stepped ex Villain Matt Grave with a chance to put the visitors ahead. However, Terry Buss pulled of a tremendous save to deny his old team mate. Just four minutes later Villa took the lead through Shaun Preddie after great work from Charlie McCarthy and Laurie Shennan, although there was a suspicion of hand ball in the build up. On 79 minutes Shennan had a goal chalked off for offside but Villa were now on top looking for the second. Patience was rewarded on 84 minutes when Leeyon Phelan slotted home his first goal for the Villa 4 minutes after replacing Charlie McCarthy and the points were secure.
The home crowd went home happy dreaming of success over Bedfont Sports in the forthcoming F.A. Cup tie – should be a very interesting game.
Coming down to Division One Westfield
kept up their 100% league start making it five wins out of five league starts
thanks to a 2-0 victory against Staines Lammas. The match was a hard fought
affair with very little to get the 45 strong crowd going. The visitors came
with a game plan and it worked very well as the Lammas were restricted to
long balls with nothing at the end of it.
A goal in each half without reply secured the points, the first from Matty
Edwards following a goal mouth melee in the 16th minute and the second a delightful
chip from all of 20 yards from Shane Cheeseman.
Having lost their 100% league start to Westfield a few days previous Feltham
got back to winning ways over at South Kilburn. Three first half goals one
of which was from the penalty spot resulting in the South Kilburn defender
receiving a red card for a hand ball attempting to save a 30 yard goal bound
shot. Lukaze Craig converted the subsequent penalty. Further first half goals
came via Julius Uganda (2) although they could and possibly should have had
more especially as they missed a second half spot kick.
Eversley who slipped up 1-3 at home to Staines Lammas on Saturday travelled over to Knaphill keen to put that result behind them looking hugely under strength. However, what better way to put disappointment behind you than have another match so soon as this proved. From first whistle, the Boars got in to their stride and on 16 minutes went one up. Liam Fisher danced around the Knaphill fullback to drive home from just outside the box.
Knaphill enjoyed their best spell of the game just before the interval but were unable to find the net. Moments after the restart the home keeper Burton denied Eversley saving Baker's 25 yard free kick with Tom Moran firing the rebound over when it looked easier to score. Minutes later Matt Squires did the same for Knaphill at the other end.
Then in two minutes that effectively nailed the result and a vital win for the Boars. First Lee Gamble saw his tap in ruled out for offside for Knaphill and moments later Jon Lloyd's cross found Baker in the box at the other end and his header made it 2-0 after 60 minutes.
With 77 minutes played the home side were awarded a penalty after a ball to hand in the box. Hogsden struck the foot of the post and the opportunity went amiss. Eversley thanks to this were able to see the game out. Some very creditable performances out there today for Eversley including Rastall in goal & Nathan Thomas in midfield. Nice to have headaches, I guess, for Sav & Clem ahead of the visit this Saturday to Westfield.
Elsewhere in Division One Guernsey top the table following a 4-0 success over at Cobham, with goals from Ross Allen, Domonic Heaume, Sam Cochrane & Glyn Dyer making it a very productive weekend away for them.
Top scorers on the day were Hartley Wintney who recorded a 9-1 success at home to Frimley Green no details of this are to hand.
Three
games set for Tuesday night Premier Division Cheesington & Hook United
Vs Camberley Town & Mole Valley SCR Vs South Park while Bedfont Sports
Reserves play host to Staines Lammas Reserves.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days – 29th August 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to you all to another chapter of 'Seven Days' our weekly recollection of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and beyond.
We commence with news of five of our clubs seeking to progress in this season's F.A. Challenge Cup competition and the three replays that took place during the past week.
First up saw Badshot Lea and Cobham pit their wits against each other again following the draw at the Leg of Mutton Field the previous Friday evening.
Following this result Manager Dave Ford was looking for a better performance from his Badshot team to earn the right to play Chertsey Town in the next round.
On 10 minutes they took the lead
following a shot that the Cobham keeper seemed to have covered, en route though
it took a wicked deflection and the ball ended up in the back of the net leaving
the helpless keeper routed to the spot, the lead was then doubled on 22 minutes
following an excellent corner from Liam Roberts which found Sean Hankin who
headed powerfully into the roof of the net.
The visitors had a spell of pressure and the front two were looking menacing
with their power and pace but unlike Friday the defense stood firm.
On 40 minutes the all important third goal arrived following a scramble in the area and it was John Pomroy who popped up and turned in the loose ball to give his side a comfortable 3-0 lead.
With 44 minutes on the clock following a free kick and James Mariner stepped up to take a shot which was deflected beyond the outstretched opposition keeper to give them a 4-0 half time lead.
Cobham came out for the second half with their ears still ringing from their half time roasting and 10 minutes into the period then found themselves a man down following a large fracas in front of the away dug out, shortly afterwards it was Badshot Lea who then had a player sent off for retaliation.
On the hour mark Cobham did pull a goal back and never gave up in their attempt to salvage something from the game but it ended up with Badshot Lea progressing to the next round and a tough task against ex-CCFL members Chertsey Town who left us at the end of last season – we wish them well.
Meanwhile, over at Chalky Lane, Chessington & Hook United were hosting Colliers Wood United for the right to progress to the next round. In a very evenly contested match, it was the away side who drew early blood following a mix up between Chessy keeper Tim Pitt and Zak Graham with the latter turning the ball into his own net. However, on 38 minutes the tie was level again as a result of Aaron Cole-Bolt who fired a 20 yard beauty past a helpless Chris Duffy to level matters.
Chessy looked better in the second half but it was a serious injury to Wood skipper Sam Mead that allowed such ascendancy. On 61 minutes Duffy failed to clear a high ball which hit the bar and rebounded to Darren Gooden who netted easily.
Wood rallied as the home side sought to protect their lead but in reality they failed to create many clear cut chances. However, in the 9th minute of stoppage time they received a lifeline, with the ball bobbing around the penalty area the assistant referee far side saw a handball and they were awarded a penalty. It was left to Ryan Hughes whose penalty rescued them in the first match to attempt to score and take the tie into extra time. Sadly though it was not to be this time as Tim Pitt produced a terrific save which was enough to see Chessy through.
This was a very good cup tie in tricky conditions and just maybe the home side had the edge. Well done to both sides though for providing a good match for the spectators.
Five league matches were played also on Tuesday evening, four from the Premier Division and one from Division One. Five away wins out of five were secured including Guildford City who maintained their 100% league start to 2011/12. Camberley Town secured a good 2-1 success at Farnham Town thanks to a brace from Adam Cornell in the 18th & 61st minutes with a goal in between from Brad Smith on 31 minutes. Always a good keen contest when these two meet each other and this one was certainly no different.
Over at Molesey, Premier Division newboys, Windsor, went searching for their first league victory of the season and were duly rewarded with a 4-3 success. Dave Tilbury gave Windsor a 4th minute lead but the home side were back on level terms thanks to James McShane on 19 minutes. Barely five minutes later Ryan O'Toole restored the lead for Windsor and then added another on 36 minutes to put the visitors well and truly in the driving seat.
Second half saw the visitors reduced to 10 men on 66 minutes in when Dave Tilbury received a second yellow card but Windsor were not giving up on extending their precious lead. Their fourth goal arrived on 66 minutes when Ryan Ashe played in O'Toole who made no mistake netting and also securing for himself his first hat-trick for the club.
Playing numbers were leveled when Sam Lampard received a straight red for kicking out. On 73 minutes, Quashie Manny pulled a goal back for the home side, this was then followed up by a stoppage time third goal from substitute Ben Porter. Just enough time was left for Luke Elliot to receive his second yellow card and subsequent dismissal for the home side for shoving Ben Porter and bring an end to the match that saw Windsor secure their first league victory of the season.
In Division One Knaphill and Hartley Wintney played out a good evening's entertainment with the away side truimphing 3-2 keeping them nicely placed in the division at this early stage of the season.
Wednesday evening saw just two matches involving our sides. Firstly Bookham played host to VCD Athletic for the right of progress in the F.A. Cup but due to two goals in the final ten minutes, from Mike McKenna and then Aiden Pursgrove, bowed out. 2-0 the final score to the visitors who now travel to Lordswood in the next round.
Additionally on Wednesday evening, Warlingham were hosting last seasons reigning champions Worcester Park in a most entertaining match which eventually finished all square at 2-2.
Two goals within a minute of each other over at Egham on Saturday afternoon saw reigning Premier Division Champions Guildford City surrender their 100% league record so far this season, Dan Moody gave them a 29th minute lead which was then swiftly wiped out by Dale Marwell – 1-1 the final score.
South Park picked up their first
ever Premier division victory securing a 4-0 home win over Sandhurst Town.
Park took the lead on 10 minutes through David Smith who latched onto a Lavery
pass. South Park then appeared to sit back and allowed Sandhurst into the
game and provided them with a few problems. Just before the interval the best
move of the game came about when a Burgess cross fell to Dave Smith who laid
the ball back to Ryan Every on the edge of the box. He then found the bottom
corner with pin point accuracy to give Park a 2-0 interval lead.
Park came out in the second half in a more dominant mood and never really
looked like losing their lead creating a number of chances throughout the
half. Dave Smith completed his hat-trick with further goals on 62 and 90 minutes
to give them three very good points.
Over at Croydon new boys Windsor were looking to follow up their midweek victory over at Molesey and included their two newly recruited players but had to settle for a share of the spoils. 0-0 the final score at The Arena.
In Division One at the start of the day there were still three sides with 100% league records to date. Bedfont Sports who are current league leaders had to work hard to grind out a 1-0 victory over Warlingham in a match that was not a classic by any stretch.
Second placed Guernsey faired much better over at Frimley Green netting five without reply thanks to a hat-trick from Ross Allen and one apiece from Ryan-Zico Black and Dominic Heaume.
The Division's other 100 percenters, Feltham, and Westfield were competing with each other and at the end of play one or either of the teams had to surrender their early season record. In a niggley first half, which failed to get going for both sides, Westfield took the lead through debutant Jamie Doble when his effort found the top corner.
The second half was certainly an improved display from Westfield and their efforts were rewarded with a second goal four minutes from time from substitute Rob Jones, who was also making his debut for the club.
To round off what was a very good day for Westfield their reserve side were playing their first competitive match at the new look Woking Park and recorded a most impressive 6-1 victory over Staines Lammas. Michael Leach bagged a hat-trick with other efforts from Michael Tasker, Jason Finegan and a peach of a goal from Matty Edwards.
With it being Bank Holiday long weekend most of our Premier & Division One sides will have been in action today (Monday) with the exception of Chessington & Hook United, who host Camberley Town, and Mole Valley SCR, who welcome South Park, on Tuesday. I hope to have feedback on several of the matches available on the league website later on this evening and the two Tuesday matches late evening Tuesday.
This coming Saturday is F.A. Cup day again and to all our competing clubs we wish you all well as you seek hopefully further glory.
Enjoy your football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days - 21st August 2011
Hello Again and Welcome to 'Seven Days' our weekly round up of all things Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League and a little bit more.
The week got under way with new boys Windsor playing host to Camberley Town at Stag Meadow, on Monday evening, with just about 24 minutes played on the clock and Windsor leading by a goal to nil, the match was brought to an early end due to floodlight failure and the game had to be abandoned.
A similar scenario happened at Sandhurst Town the following evening where The Fizzers played host to Banstead Athletic where the referee felt there was insufficient lighting and had to abandon proceedings.
Elsewhere Farnham Town and Epsom & Ewell fought out a fairly un-eventful 0-0 draw although in the last few minutes the match could have been won but all in all just about the right result.
Early season pacesetters Guildford City made it four on the spin thanks to a stylish 4-1 success at Cove, Simon Cooper and Joel Hughes got the show on the road for the reigning champions, Cove did manage to pull a goal back but a brace from Tony Chaplin ensured the visitors were victorious.
In Division One Westfield kept up their 100% start to the season recording a good 2-0 victory against Bookham, a goal apiece from Tom Hegarty and an absolute peach from Rob Anderson did the biz in a very highly entertaining encounter.
Friday evening saw the FA Challenge Cup get under way for the season and three of our teams making their entry in an attempt to seek glory in this the 140th season of the magical competition.
Flying the flag for us Cobham who played host to Badshot Lea and the two sides shared four goals, in the other tie involving one of our clubs Wembley travelled over to Ascot United for a match that really had the media interested, 1141 spectators were treated to a game of good entertainment that came to life during the second period, Wembley took the lead with just about 55 minutes on the clock after the United defense failed to deal with an inswinging corner which allowed Chris Koten to poke home from close range.
The dream at that point seemed to be dying for Ascot until about five minutes from time when Jon Bennett was first to react to a loose ball in the penalty area Ini Amaegbe was then rather clumsily brought down, enter Bennett who cooly kept his head and converted the resultant penalty to level matters, this seemed to spur the home side on and as you would expect they went in search of a winner, however they were made to pay for this, after failing to deal with a ball from the right the ball fell to Roy Byron inside the area and he duly fired home what proved to be the winner and it was Wembley who progressed to the next round.
Despite this defeat Jeff Lamb the Ascot manager (taking charge of only his third game) summed it all up when he said 'It had been a magical day' feeling that that was what the cup was all about and for all who took part it was a great occasion and all enjoyed their moments of fame.
And so Saturday arrived and for me personally I chose to make a trip to Sevenoaks Town who were hosting our recently improving Ash United, The Oaks came into the game having lost their two opening league fixtures while Ash had won their last two to give us hopes of a CCL victory. Wrong, it took the home side barely three minutes to get themselves in front and this was then doubled quite soon afterwards, by the interval Ash found themselves three goals in arrears.
Second half with the home side well in control with the three clear goal cushion were able to slow the game down and it was hot on the sidelines it must have been much worse running around in that heat, the hosts did manage a fourth goal in the 83rd minute and that was that 4-0 the final score and Ash United fell at the first. Pictures from the match can be seen here in the gallery.

Sevenoaks Town manage
to clear an Ash United close range effort off the line in Saturdays FA Cup
Preliminary Round Tie.
Elsewhere in the competition Staines Lammas secured their first ever win in the FA Cup, funny really having missed the rain over At Sevenoaks, this match started in heavy rain but fortunately ended up in bright sunshine.
As for the game it was a good competitive affair played in really good spirit, it would appear that when Lammas took the lead in the 28th minute it was slightly against the run of play thanks to a Matt Brunt header followed up ten minutes later thanks to a virtuoso goal from Matt Baxter.
Second half it took two excellent saves from the home keeper to preserve their advantage, eventually on 65 minutes Matt Baxter added his second to secure the contest and secure their progress to the next round – 3-0 final score.
The all Surrey tie between at The Memorial Ground, Farnham saw the home side progress thanks to a 75th minute spot-kick which was converted by Mark Corbett against our current Premier Division leaders Guildford City who also had their captain red carded.
Finally FA Cup report wise, Raynes Park Vale progressed thanks to a 3-1 triumph over Hassocks having comeback from a deficit to secure victory.
Just about room to mention one Division One fixture which saw current league leaders secure a 3-1 success over Knaphill having come from a 1-0 deficit thanks to a debut goal from Craig Knowles after 9 minutes which was then wiped out on 37 minutes from Ricky Owen, Knaphill continued to play some good football during the first half but then seemed to take their foot of the pedal allowing the visitors to take advantage and go 2-1 up on the hour, Ricky Hogsden shot just wide of the far post midway through the half for the home side it was Chris Baker who gave the visitors a 2 goal advantage on 78 minutes, Knaphill then pushed forward in search of reward but apart from an effort from Knowles cleared off the line four minutes from time Bedfont held firm to secure the three points and keep then top of the table.
Just about room to wish Epsom & Ewell and Croydon well as they do battle later on today (Sunday). Congratulations to all our sides who over the weekend have secured another opportunity to progress in The Magical FA Challenge Cup, I as always look forward to being back with you next week, and a huge thanks to all who have helped with reports to put this scribe together.
Have A Great Week and don’t forget there are a number of midweek fixtures out and about.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days - 14th August 2011
Welcome Everybody to “Seven Days”, our Weekly Catch Up of events within The Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League for season 2011/12.
We are now one week into the season and looking at the results so far it is certainly looking mighty interesting especially if your loyalties are with Guildford City, Bedfont Sports and Staines Lammas Reserves.
Following their 6-2 victory over Mole Valley SCR Guildford City recorded a 4-1 home victory against Sandhurst Town thanks to goals from Jaydon Gibbs, Dan Moody, Austin Gachenu, Alexander Jeffers did pull a goal back for The Fizzers late on but a further goal from Joel Hughes restored the three goal advantage to give a final scoreline of 4-1.
Two out of two became 3 out of 3 following a hard fought victory over highly rated Hanworth Villa in a tight match at The Spectrum Saturday afternoon, City took an early lead through Corey Hodder who headed home from a corner only to be pegged back after half an hour when a shot from Levi King was unfortunately deflected into his own net by Tony Chaplin. Shortly before the interval Ben Rayner finished off a neat move which proved to be the winning goal, second half was a bit of a tense affair but City held on to register another three points.
Ash United picked up their first win of the season with a battling performance at unbeaten Horley Town, Ash got the perfect start when after 11 minutes Karl Dallaway was brought down and from the resulting spot kick Sean Davies tucked the ball away, Horley came close to equalising when they struck the post & crossbar. Second half the home side had a lot of the ball but the long ball tactics saw some brave defending by Ash but they held on to bag the points
Division One early season pace setters are Bedfont Green with 3 wins out of 3, their latest victims were Worcester Park who were last seasons champions, a solitary headed goal from George Marks was sufficient for them to secure maximum points closely followed by new boys Guernsey who in midweek picked up a very good point at Hartley Wintney sharing a most entertaining 2-2 draw, they then followed that up with a 3-0 home win over Warlingham on Saturday courtesy of goals from Angus Mackay and a brace from Glyn Dyer.
Our Reserve section got under way for the new season and goals were popping in everywhere, result of the day was the 12-1 victory Staines Lammas secured over Frimley Green, not been able to get any match info on that one as yet, from the 7 matches played 40 goals were scored, phew.
Well another busy midweek lies ahead for our teams out and about folks and then Friday three of our league teams set off on the Wembley trail in search of F.A. Cup success - we wish them well in their quest for glory, likewise all our other clubs who set off on the same trail on Saturday afternoon, hopefully when I compile my next set of notes I can highlight a number of these ventures involving teams from our league.
Thanks again to all who have kindly contributed this week and apologies to those I have not been able to include this time round, as always I will be back with you again next week.
Enjoy your football.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Seven Days - 7th August 2011
Consternation at Cobham
in midweek when match officials arrived for the pre-season friendly match
against Hendon only to find that the pitch markings failed to include the
six yard area markings at each end.
A search by club officials failed to find a white line marker so the game
was played with goal kicks being taken from a reasonable location within the
penalty area. Word has it that local rivals were somehow involved ?
Three wins on the spin for Guildford City after their very impressive 5-3 victory over local rivals Godalming Town in this hugely entertaining Chase Cup encounter.
Having started brightly City fell behind after 10 minutes, however this seemed to spur them on and an equaliser wasn't long in coming and then just before the interval took the lead thanks to a brace from Jaydon Gibbs.
A third and fourth goal came from Dan Moody and then Luke Bradnick seemed to have the game locked down, huge credit must be given to Godalming Town though as they really got stuck in and pulled it back to 4-3, with just 5 minutes left Luke Bradnick added his second goal to seal a 5-3 victory.
This was a fantastic result against a decent Step 4 side to go with other pre-season results and hopes are high for additional silverware this coming campaign.
And so Season 2011/12
is now up and running, Hopes, Wishes and Dreams for all are now under way,
for me personally I had the pleasure of dropping in on South Kilburn (one
of our new teams this season) and was certainly made to feel very welcome
by all at the club.
As for the game itself it turned out to be a feisty encounter which included
3 red cards and Cobham pulling back from a 2 goal defecit to share the spoils.
Elsewhere at The Memorial Ground Farnham Town and Egham Town provided good entertainment and also shared 4 goals in one of those good old fashioned end to end games, Egham taking a 5th minute lead with a 35 yard lob over the Farnham keeper, the home side got themselves back into the game on 20 minutes thanks to Mark Corbett and eventually took the lead 15 minutes from time via Brad Smith who chased down a back pass and his persistance paid off, credit Egam though they got their equaliser very shortly afterwards through Del Marvell – Final Score 2-2.
Looks like Ash United & Wembley produced an evenly contested entertaining encounter at The Shawfields Stadium, again these two evenly matched sides shared 4 goals, this despite Wembley losing their keeper who was red carded for a professional foul.
Finally this week over at Raynes Park Vale they got their season off to a very good start recording a 2-0 victory over Dorking, with 8 players making there RPV debuts along with the return of key players from last season goals from Simon Moore on 48 minutes and Karle Davy on 76 ensured the home start bagged the points against a hard working Dorking side who also created a number of chances but returned home empty handed on this occasion.
Thanks to all who provided me with match summaries I will be back next week- Keep the news coming in folks to me at neil.morrell4@tiscali.co.uk and I will look at our midweek adventures out and about. Have A Good Week.

MORRELL’S MUSINGS
Waiting
time is almost over, with just 6 days to go before we open the doors for the
commencement of season 2011/12.
For
those unaware we enter our 34th season of existence with high hopes and
expectations for all our member teams, whatever your role at your respective
clubs the months ahead fulfil you football wise.
Over
the years non league football has been such a large part of my life and to be
able to return to a league such as ours I often find it hard to put into words
just how excited I feel when I get myself out and about visiting YOU our
treasured members and revel in the delight of spending time in your company
watching the season unfold over the months that lie ahead.
By
way of a slight change I have been able to get to a few pre-season friendlies which, although quite rare for me, have
certainly wet my appetite: look out
railway network I will be spending a lot of time with you over the months ahead.
Over
the past week I could not help but notice a few outstanding results out and
about these include Sandhurst Town 5 Ashford Town 0, by
all accounts 'The Fizzers' have had a really good pre season build up including
an impressive 2-0 victory over a Brighton & Hove Albion XI recently aswell as a good 1-1
draw with Harrow Borough.
New
boys Guernsey following their breath taking encounter with AFC Wimbledon
followed this up with a 6-0 demolition job on a young Bristol City side, this
was then followed up with a 1-3 reversal at Horley Town
despite being 1-0 up at the interval thanks to a Ross Allen goal, Darren Tidy
and a brace from Kyle Hough in quick succession turned things around after
several during the second period.
Of
the 4 games monitored on Saturday Raynes Park Vale
suffered a 4-0 reverse at home to Chertsey Town, Ash United went down 0-3 at
home to Leatherhead, Windsor went down 0-2 at Wilkes Park home of Flackwell Heath and last but not least Sandhurst
Town were beaten at home to Beaconsfield SYCOB 1-4, obviously there were
several other games but at the time of writing no news has reached me about
these.
Before
closing can I bring to your attention a match that is being played this coming
Tuesday evening at Wey Court between Godalming Town
and Guildford City for the right to lift The Shooting Star Chase Cup, Kick-Off
is at 19.45pm and admission charges will be £5 for Adults and Concessions £3, monies
raised on the gate will be donated to the local Guildford Chase Hospice and with
both sides keen to lift the trophy it certainly has the making of a most
enjoyable evening of football entertainment.
Keep
you news coming in folks – usual address pressofficer@combinedcountiesleague.co.uk and I
look forward to being back with you next week with among other topics news from
our opening day of league fixtures.
