CONGRATULATIONS TO GUILDFORD CITY

COMBINED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION CHAMPIONS 2010-2011

After a competitive match against Bookham at Dorking, which was much closer than would be expected from a top against bottom encounter, Guildford City emerged with a 2-0 win and the Combined Counties League title for 2010-2011.

Now they must wait on their appeal with the FA next Friday to know if they will be playing at Step 4 next season.

MOLESEY IN SURREY SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL.

It was season 1993-1994 some 17 years ago when Molesey FC last reached the semi-final of the Surrey Senior Cup losing 3-0 to a strong Woking outfit who eventually went on to win the Cup beating Sutton Utd 3-1 in the final at Kingsmeadow. Ironically on route to Molesey reaching the semi-final back then, they drew 2-2 then beat Carshalton 2-0 the same result this time round in the quarter final !

Now its the turn of Leatherhead this Tuesday 19 April 2011 at Fetcham Grove kick off 7.45pm. The last time these 2 clubs met in the Surrey Senior Cup was during 2003-2004 quarter final where Leatherhead come away 1-0 winners.

It would be good if all CCL clubs' members, players, management and supporters would come along on Tuesday to support The Moles, as it would be good for the league to have a club representing the CCL in the final which we understand will be played at Met. Police's Imber Court on Tuesday 10 May 2011.

Molesey have never won the Surrey Senior Cup so in advance, they sincerely thank you for your support

Guildford City Football Club Open the Doors for Combat Stress

Guildford City Football Club is pleased to announce that the match with Sandhurst Town on Saturday the 9th of April has been designated as a ‘free admission’ game.  (League approval has been given in accordance with rule 21).  The gates will be opened up to allow all spectators in for free, with donation boxes inside the ground to help raise money for the club’s chosen charity, Combat Stress, as well as the Spectrum ground improvements.

A similar event proved successful last season and, with the club chasing promotion from the Combined Counties Premier Division, club officials hope to break the long-standing attendance record of 212.  Crowds are already 30% up on last season thanks to exciting runs in the FA Cup and Vase, as well as the side’s excellent performance in the league.

The event will give supporters an opportunity to see the new look Spectrum football ground following extensive building upgrades.  There will also be opportunities for children to win free sweets during a half-time penalty shootout competition.

The match kicks off at 3pm at the Spectrum Football Ground, Parkway, Guildford GU1 1UP.  Free parking is available directly outside the ground entrance.  The Spectrum is serviced by a regular shuttle bus service (#100) from the town centre.

More information on the club, including detailed directions to the ground and forthcoming fixtures, is available on the official website:

FROM THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

The FA together with County FAs are currently consulting about extending the current National Game Strategy. The major piece of work to ensure that all stakeholders involved in the game can feed in their views into how the future of the game is shaped will be via The Big Grassroots Football Survey. This survey will run from 14th – 31st March. We are looking at promoting the survey as widely as possible to ensure that the strategy reflects as many stakeholders views as possible.

In order to promote this we are asking all our partners to help promote the survey and also to take part in completing it, which you can do by going to: http://www.critical.co.uk/cfasurvey from 14 March on.

Richard Lambert, Epsom and Ewell FC Historian and Programme Editor, is organising a Sponsored Walk in aid of Surrey Mencap and Epsom and Ewell FC. The Walk will be on Saturday 12 March to the match at Guildford City FC at the Spectrum in Guildford. The intrepid walkers will be setting off from The Epsom Clock Tower at 8.30am, with the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell joining them for the press/photo shoot. Anyone wanting to sponsor the fans for a great cause can visit the club website, or go to Epsom’s “justgiving.com” page online.

Epsom are asking if clubs playing at home before 12 March would be willing to publicise the details in their matchday programmes, on their websites, over their tannoys on matchdays, and perhaps have matchday collections to help the cuase please?

Also, Richard Lambert is hosting a Sports Quiz on Saturday 26 March at Raynes Park Vale FC, following Epsom's match at Raynes Park Vale that afternoon. The Quiz will start at 7.45pm.

EPSOM & EWELL v CAMBERLEY TOWN

Saturday 3rd March 2011

Pictures from the Premier Division clash between Epsom & Ewell & Camberley Town have been uploaded to the website. Please visit at :-

http://www.combinedcountiesleague.co.uk/gallery2.htm

An entertaining game which saw Camberley dominate the first half creating several good chances and missing a penalty. At half-time 1-0 following a headed goal mid-way through the half.

The second half was completely different with Epsom playng some great football at times. The best move of the game resulting in a goal line clearance with the Camberley keeper beaten. Epsom leveled with a cross similar to the one that gave Camberley the lead.

With a minute to go Camberley took back the lead with a good finish from outside the area. Plenty of incident and some good football at times.

GUILDFORD CITY FC

There was an incident at the end of the match on Saturday 19 February, between Guildford City and Chessington & Hook United, when the match referee was assaulted. Guildford City FC has acted promptly, issuing the following statement: "Following an incident after yesterday's match, Guildford City Football Club has suspended the player involved with immediate effect, and he will have no further involvement with the club. The incident is now under investigation." The matter is in the hands of both Surrey County FA and the Police. The League will not comment further whilst the matter remains under investigation.

SPORTSMANSHIP WINNERS FOR DECEMBER 2010 - JANUARY 2011

Division 1 - Worcester Park

Reserve Division - Sheerwater

EPSOM & EWELL FC

Require a First Team Secretary for the 2011/12 season, currently operating out of Merstham F.C. in the Combined Counties League, and also:
Require a Reserve Team Secretary for the 2011/12 season, currently operating out of Raynes Park Vale F.C. in the Suburban League.

The First Team Secretary position covers anything and everything to do with the administration of the First Team. Duties include but are not restricted to, match day paperwork, official duties, and contacts with the opposition and League.

The role has been split recently at our club, and it is our aim to bring all the duties together. To achieve this we ideally require someone with previous experience of the role at Step Five or above. Experience at a lower level may be sufficient, although this would need to be detailed clearly in your application.

Please note that the club will be offering an honorarium of £1,000 for the successful applicant, from which any fines they incur in their role would be removed before being paid in two instalments, December and May.

The Reserve Team Secretary would have a similar brief, and if they wished could expand their position to include our Youth Team in the Southern Youth League, also currently operating out of Raynes Park Vale F.C. The role isn’t quite as demanding as that of the First Team Secretary and may suit a keen “first-timer”, although it is of similar importance, and the successful applicant would also become very much part of our “team” at the club. Regrettably, there is no remuneration available for this role.

These are exciting times to be involved with Epsom & Ewell F.C. as we aim to return to a new ground in our Borough in the near future, and as an important part of the “off the field” team, both Secretaries would have a real opportunity to get involved and steer the club in whatever way you feel is required.

Applications should be made in writing to the Chairman: Tony Jeffcoate at 142 Manor Drive North, Worcester Park, Surrey. KT4

EPSOM & EWELL FC

Football Quiz Evening
Saturday 26th March – 7.45p.m.

Epsom & Ewell F.C. will be running an Exclusively Football based team quiz at Raynes Park Vale's Clubhouse on Saturday 26th March with a start time of 7.45. This gives people plenty of time to get to the venue (which is five minutes from Raynes Park Station and five minutes from the A3 for those who drive) after their own games that day.

Entry for each team is just £10 and you can have five members in a team.

We will accept all teams, but would particularly like to see teams representing other clubs, players, officials, referees, or in short anyone who thinks they know their football.

There will be two cash prizes of £120 and £60 for the top two teams, although this may increase depending on the number of teams that attend.

The competition will run over twelve rounds with another picture round running through the evening (160 questions/pictures in total). Food will also be available, and there will be a break in the evening's festivities for this, while the Raynes Park bar is a well-stocked one.

If this event is well supported it will become an annual event, so please come along and give it a try. The quiz organisers have plenty of experience in running these events, so it really should be a good one.

If you are interested, you are welcome to just turn up on the night, although if at all possible it would be appreciated if you would let us know that a team is coming, so that we can get a rough idea on numbers. The contact details are for the Club Programme Editor Richard Lambert, who can be contacted on 07796 157077, or on richard.c.lambert@virgin.net

The match at Grand Drive that afternoon is Raynes Park Vale v Epsom & Ewell, so if your team aren't playing, why not make a day of it!

PRESS RELEASE FROM KNAPHILL FC

Knaphill Football Club is delighted to announce that the Football Foundation grant for the floodlights and 50 seat grandstand has been approved. Furthermore, Woking Borough Council have confirmed that the contractors have been approached to start the work as soon as possible. The hardstand is due to be laid before Christmas and the floodlights and stand should be in place before the end of January 2011.

Nick Croshaw, Ground Development Manager, says, ‘This news starts the beginning of the end of a 3 year project that has tested every-one involved to the limit. When I was Chairman, I promised that we would get lights at Redding Way to keep Knaphill’s senior status and allow FA Cup & Vase matches to be played, this has is now coming to fruition and will cement Knaphill’s position as one of the leading clubs in the area. I would also like to thank Woking Borough Council and the local population of Knaphill for all their help and support during the project, without which all of this would have been much more difficult to accomplish.’

Dave Freeman, General Manager, added,’ Without doubt this has been a testing time for all concerned at the football club, with the constant knock backs and doubts from outsiders, delays in planning and funding; however after years of meetings and discussions we can now look forward to a bright future at the club and hopefully take the club onto the next level. A number of people have put a lot of hard work and effort into this project and I am proud to have been part of it.’
Once the work has been completed, the ground will fulfil the criteria for Knaphill to remain in the Combined Counties League, allow promotion to the Premier Division and also entry to the FA Vase for 2011/12.

Chairman Terry Chapman concludes, ‘At last we can move on, this has been a hard slog but now we are in sight of one of our goals. Perhaps the naysayers can now get behind us and support rather than insult this very successful and hardworking club. My congratulations go out to my committee and to the massive support of Geoff Ward and his Woking Borough Council team.

This season I set about having a strong executive committee of people that work diligently and without fuss and it is their hard work that has brought about this success. We can now offer the community good football, good facilities and a friendly welcome, not only on Saturday afternoons but weekday evenings as well. We do have further goals, as all successful operations have, and with the people around this club I am confident we will reach those goals.

The floodlight issue now comes to an end and so I hope it will give all our teams the necessary push to improve our game and put ourselves to the forefront of senior football in this area. Watch this space for an announcement of our first floodlit game.’

FARNHAM TOWN FC

Farnham and the League will shortly be losing the services of Secretary Sandra Charlton, as she is emigrating to South Africa.

Sandra has issued a general invitation to all her friends and colleagues to join her for a farewell celebration on Saturday 13 November, early evening onwards, at Farnham Town FC

FA CARLSBERG VASE

Apart from Warlingham, who travel to ex-CCL club Reading Town, and Camberley Town, who travel to Kent League Herne Bay, the other five clubs have all been handed home ties. Home or away, the League’s best wishes go to all of them.

Due to ground sharing, one match is on SUNDAY 14 NOV, and that is Epsom & Ewell FC who entertain Bracknell Town, now from the Hellenic League, at Merstham FC. Kick-off at Merstham is 1.00 p.m. and both the Club and the tea bar will be open early.

SANDHURST TOWN FC

FIZZERS APPOINT 1st TEAM MANAGER
(Press Release from Chairman, Tony Dean).

Sandhurst Town Football Club is pleased to announce that it has appointed Dean Thomas as its first team manager. Supporting Dean will be Jon Palmer as Assistant Manager, Sarah Brown as club physio, Markiyan Casely as Fitness Coach and Glen Goudie as Goal Keeper Coach. Andy Keen continues as reserve team manager supported by Ally Innes and Bill Thripp.

Dean as many of you know has played for Kingstonian in the Conference League going to two FA Trophy Finals as well as spells with Carshalton Athletic, Bromley, Bracknell and Reading Town. Jon Palmer has also played at the highest level of non-league for a number of years and is now completing his coaching badges.
The appointments follow a careful and thorough selection process. We had an excellent response from a broad spectrum of quality candidates. Dean, Andy and Jon have done an excellent job over the last few weeks in their caretaker role winning four of our last five league games and scoring a total of 22 goals. Dean has also attracted and retained the quality of players we need and promoted attractive attacking football to maintain our primary football focus and securing our place at the top table in the CCL Premier League. We now have one of the strongest football management teams across our three squads in the area which provides a strong base as we develop the club further in our centenary year.

EVERSLEY FC

Congratulations to Eversley FC and their groundsman, David Bland. The pitch at Eversley was “highly commended” in the Step 5/6 Section at the recent FA National Groundsman of the Year Awards.

The national winner at this level was Harefield United FC

Cove v Croydon

Cove met Croyon at Oak Farm in a Premier Division clash and found Croydon keeper Francis Ameyaw on top form. He pulled off a string of saves in both halves keeping the scores level. In time added on at the end of the second half, Paul Scott controlled a freekick into the penaltly area and flicked it into the net to give Croydon a 1-0 victory.
Match Pictures are here.

EVERSLEY FC

New Manager Required - Eversley FC Reserves

Eversley FC are looking for a new Manager to take over control of their Reserve team/squad with effect from November 2010. The current manager has done an excellent job, but unfortunately work commitments mean he is not able to commit the time required for this position.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join a very ambitious club, with excellent facilities (continually being improved), and take over a very successful Reserve team who have won numerous trophies over the past few seasons, including the Reserve Challenge Cup last year in their inaugural CCL season.

The candidate should ideally possess coaching qualifications and have managerial experience at an appropriate level. Applicants will need to be committed to the club and fully supportive of the 1st XI Management, in order to help them achieve their long term goals and to continue their progression up the non-league ladder. Ideally they will also be able to bring in young new talented players as well as an Assistant Manager/Coach.

All applications are welcome and should be sent directly to Daniel Nevitt (daniel.nevitt@hotmail.co.uk) or contact via mobile 07715 574161.

Closing date for applications is the 31st October 2010.

The Test My Heart Tour comes to Middlesex

From MCFA Newsletter

The charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) have organised free heart health screenings in Middlesex for young people aged 14-35 later this year. The testing sessions are part of the Test My Heart tour and will take place at Waitrose in West Ealing on 27th, 28th and 29th November supported by the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund with help from a £1,000 donation from MCFA. Tom was an Under 14 player for Hanwell Town before his sudden passing.

Screenings of this nature are extremely important as at least twelve apparently fit and healthy young
people die suddenly each week through undetected heart conditions. CRY aim to reduce that through screenings and research as well as offering support post diagnosis and for bereaved families.

For further information or to book a screening please visit: www.testmyheart.org/Screening.aspx

FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND

HASSOCKS V FARNHAM TOWN

Farnham Town can count themselves unlucky after losing 2-3 against a Hassocks side that showed that they could be better. Hassocks started well in the first half and cut through the Farnham defence several times. However, they never really found the finishing touch. The first goal came in suspect style. Two Hassocks players being ahead of the Farnham defence and managed to find the net in what seemed a clear case of offside. However the goal stood. 1-0 at half time.
The second half was a different story. Farnham came out and took control. Mark Corbett grabbed an equaliser and Farnham started to look like the only team to score again. However, against the run of play Hassocks went 2-1 in front. Minutes later Farnham picked up a penalty which was put away by Mark Corbett. Farnham came close to winning but it was Hassocks who scored with just a couple of minutes to go and booked a place in the First Qualifying Round.
Farnham will be disappointed not to have at least booked a replay at the Memorial Ground.

SEASON 2010-2011 BEGINS

BANSTEAD ATHLETIC V HOLEY TOWN

A tale of two half’s with Banstead’s new young team looking the better in the first half and Horley changing tack in the second half. Banstead took the lead early on and looked like adding to their score but failed to make it count.

In the second half Horley Town played the ball around and created chance after chance eventually equalising, a well taken free kick brought the equaliser.

The match went a little off the boil after that and both sides played out a 1-1 draw which was fair result.

GUILDFORD CITY FC

GUILDFORD CITY FC ANNOUNCE FREE MATCH TO PROMOTE FOOTBALL GROUND BID

The dream of a purpose built football ground for Guildford will come a step closer on Saturday 6th March.   Guildford City FC will launch their ground proposals at a free match against table topping North Greenford United at the Spectrum athletics ground.

The club announced ambitious plans to the press two weeks ago for a community sports facility as part of the Slyfield regeneration scheme.  This event will allow the people of Guildford to find out more about the bid and to sample a little of what Guildford City FC are all about.

Many Guildford politicians at both local and national level have already confirmed their attendance and it is hoped that people from all walks of life will come along and show their support.  The event will evoke the spirit of the old Guildford City FC when thousands used to flock to watch them at their Joseph’s Road ground.

Guildford City chairman Chris Pegman said:  “This is a vital event.  People will already have heard about the bid in the local press but this is our chance to explain our vision in more detail.  Our dream is an environmentally friendly community football ground for Guildford with facilities for a range of sports and those with disabilities.  Slyfield has always been the best location for a facility of this type – we had hopes of getting a ground there in the 1980s but this never materialised.

We cannot get this project off the ground without the support of the people of Guildford and what better backdrop for our launch than a competitive match against the league leaders.  We are on an amazing run at the moment and beat North Greenford 5-0 in the cup a few months ago so it should be quite a match.  Since the old club folded in 1974, the record attendance to watch a Guildford side has been just 212 – we want to break that and send a message that this town will rally around this bid”

The campaign launch will start at 2.15pm at the Spectrum sports arena, before the match kicks off at 3.00pm.

The details of Guildford City’s ground bid can be viewed at slyfield.guildfordcityfc.co.uk
