FA Carlsberg Vase - Third Round Proper

Winterton Rangers v Pickering Town

Saturday 8 December 2007

An FA Vase Sub-Committee meeting held on Friday 4 January 2008 considered the inclusion of Rob Northen who played in the tie for Winterton Rangers whilst under suspension by the Lincolnshire FA.

After serious consideration, the Sub-Committee decided that Winterton Rangers have breached The FA Vase Rules by playing an ineligible player in the tie as the player was under suspension.  The Sub-Committee decided in accordance with its discretionary powers that Winterton Rangers are removed from the Competition and that Pickering Town are reinstated.  The prize fund payment of £1,200 will now be paid to Pickering Town.

No order was made as to costs and no fine imposed as removal from the Competition is deemed sufficient punishment.

The FA Carlsberg Vase Fourth Round Proper tie will now be Merstham v Pickering Town to be played on Saturday 19 January 2008.

Banstead Athletic FC

Banstead Athletic have appointed Dave Lewothy as Club manager.

Dave has an impressive history having spent time with Tottenham Hotspurs, Oxford, Reading, & Kingstonian.

Epsom & Ewell FC

Epsom & Ewell, albeit tongue in cheek, are calling for goal line technology to be introduced in the CCL, following an effort just before half-time from leading scorer Robbie Burns on Tuesday against landlords Banstead Athletic which Ewell felt had clearly crossed the line even though it did not find the back of the net.  The position of the assistant referee at the time is not clear but in any event the referee did not give the “goal” and Epsom had to be content with an eventual 2-0 win.

FA Carlsberg Vase

Following their nail biting win over VT FC from the Wessex League on penalties on Tuesday in the FA Vase, Merstham now join Camberley Town as the League’s two representatives in the 4th Round of the Competition, to be played on Saturday 19 January.  Merstham’s opponents will be Winterton Rangers from the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League.  Winterton’s current league record suggests they will be tough opposition as they currently sit at the top of their table having won 12 and drawn 2 of their 16 league games prior to Saturday 22nd.   Winterton hail from Scunthorpe, and face a journey of around 227 miles to reach Merstham.

Merstham who are one of the very few clubs to have entered the FA Vase every season since its inception in the 1973-74 season have now equalled their best ever performance in reaching the 4th Round which they last did in season 1989-90 when they beat Pagham, Shoreham, Maidenhead United and Vale Recreation, from the Channel Islands before losing narrowly, 2-3 at home to Billericay Town.

Billericay also ended Winterton Town’s best ever performance way back in season 1976-77 when both clubs clashed in the 6th round at Billericay, the latter winning by the only goal of the match.

Camberley, in the meantime, look forward to entertaining Tipton Town from the Midland Alliance.  Tipton are currently sitting in 17th position in their league with 7 wins and 9 defeats from their 18 matches prior to Saturday but they have reached the 5th round once before, in season 2004-05.

Banstead Athletic FC are seeking a new manager.  Anyone interested in the position should contact Terry Parmenter on 07940 387041 or by e-mail, terryparmenter@blueyonder.co.uk

Congratulations to Camberley Town FC upon reaching the 4th Round (last 32) of the FA Carlsberg Vase with a hard fought win yesterday over Hellenic League Flackwell Heath.  Goal scoring hero was Ross Chalke who notched Camberley’s equaliser and then won the match for them in extra time with a firm header.

This is Camberley’s best performance since the 1998-99 season when they reached the 5th Round.  After beating Portfield, Cove, Burgess Hill Town, Cobham and Tooting & Mitcham, they finally went out at the 5th round stage to Woodbridge Town.  Their best ever performance came in the 1985-86 season when they went as far as the quarter-finals, finally losing away at Halesown Town.

Surrey Elite Intermediate League

The following press statement has been issued and is reproduced below for information:

PRESS RELEASE

Surrey Elite Intermediate League Gets Off the Ground

There is to be a new football league in Surrey, starting in season 2008-09.

Discussions between the Combined Counties League, the Surrey Intermediate League (Western) and the Surrey South East Combination have proceeded well, and the decision has been made to create a new Step 7 League for clubs in Surrey and surrounding areas, which will become part of the National League System.

The new League is needed to bridge the gap between the Intermediate Leagues and the Combined Counties and will be for ambitious clubs hoping to make the step up to senior football in due course.

The new league has been approved by the National Leagues Committee of the Football Association and will come into being next season, with the majority of the clubs being drawn from the existing Intermediate Leagues (so long as they finish in the top six) plus any who drop down from Division One of the Combined Counties League.  Applications from clubs outside the Surrey boundary will also be considered on their merits.

It is hoped to commence the new league with 12-16 clubs.  There is unlikely to be a reserve section but reserve teams will be catered for in one of the existing leagues

To enter the new League, clubs will have to apply and will need certain facilities, such as a clubhouse,  a railed or at least, a roped off pitch, trainers’ boxes and separate dressing rooms for each team.  If the Club can provide some cover and/or some hard standing around the pitch, so much the better but this will not be compulsory.

Requests for further information should be made as soon as possible to the Secretary Designate, Mr. Gordon Worsfold, 41 Ballards Way, South Croydon, Surrey CR2 7JP,
