GUILDFORD CITY FC

GUILDFORD CITY FC ANNOUNCE FREE MATCH TO PROMOTE FOOTBALL GROUND BID

The dream of a purpose built football ground for Guildford will come a step closer on Saturday 6th March.   Guildford City FC will launch their ground proposals at a free match against table topping North Greenford United at the Spectrum athletics ground.

The club announced ambitious plans to the press two weeks ago for a community sports facility as part of the Slyfield regeneration scheme.  This event will allow the people of Guildford to find out more about the bid and to sample a little of what Guildford City FC are all about.

Many Guildford politicians at both local and national level have already confirmed their attendance and it is hoped that people from all walks of life will come along and show their support.  The event will evoke the spirit of the old Guildford City FC when thousands used to flock to watch them at their Joseph’s Road ground.

Guildford City chairman Chris Pegman said:  “This is a vital event.  People will already have heard about the bid in the local press but this is our chance to explain our vision in more detail.  Our dream is an environmentally friendly community football ground for Guildford with facilities for a range of sports and those with disabilities.  Slyfield has always been the best location for a facility of this type – we had hopes of getting a ground there in the 1980s but this never materialised.

We cannot get this project off the ground without the support of the people of Guildford and what better backdrop for our launch than a competitive match against the league leaders.  We are on an amazing run at the moment and beat North Greenford 5-0 in the cup a few months ago so it should be quite a match.  Since the old club folded in 1974, the record attendance to watch a Guildford side has been just 212 – we want to break that and send a message that this town will rally around this bid”

The campaign launch will start at 2.15pm at the Spectrum sports arena, before the match kicks off at 3.00pm.

The details of Guildford City’s ground bid can be viewed at slyfield.guildfordcityfc.co.uk

Referee Praises Sheerwater’s Efforts to get Match On

Email received from Match Referee

“Les, hope you are well, I trust you had a good Christmas. Just thought I should contact you, we often complain about things that we think are not right, and forget about the good things, so full marks should go to Trevor Wenden and his trusty band of helpers, for all the hard work attending to the frosted areas in order to make sure the game would go ahead. They were at the ground early with all sorts of tools etc. even hot water was used.”

Gary Fennessey

Sad news received from Dot Eason, Secretary Coulsdon United

“One of our players, Gary Fennessey has died, as yet of unknown causes, and was found on Boxing Day. Gary had not played for a while due to injury and then breaking his leg in a Sunday game. He had also previously played for Dorking.  He leaves a very young family. Gary was 28 years old and was a very pleasant young man.  His brother plays for Croydon Municipal so the family has a lot of ties with the CCFL.”

The League sends its deepest sympathies to Gary’s family and to Coulsdon United.

F.A. GROUNDSMAN OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

The Football Association is once again seeking nominations from Leagues who wish to nominate clubs for the above competition.

If you feel that you would like to nominate your groundsman please advise the General Secretary as soon as possible.

Last year Staines Lammas FC came close to winning the competition for our section (Step 5/6) whilst the previous season North Greenford United won it.

SPECIAL EVENING AT WOKING REFEREES’ SOCIETY

Woking Referees Society wish to proudly announce that, at their meeting on Monday 4th January 2010, they will have in attendance, Peter Kirkup and Mike Mullarkey (who are the two assistant referees representing England in the forthcoming World Cup in South Africa in June 2010) as their guest speakers.  Their talk will be on "the art of assisting"

Anyone who would like to attend, please contact Roy Butler (assistant referee 212) for more details.

FROM SHEERWATER FC

“With deep regret and sorrow we have to report the untimely death of Thomas Difelice just 17 years of age.

Tom was travelling home with friends in the early hours of Tuesday December 15th when the car he was a passenger in was involved in the fatal accident.

Tom played in our reserve team games against Farleigh Rovers, Hanworth Villa, Westfield, Bookham, Badshot Lea, South Park, Frimley Green and Knaphill.  He also made his first team debut coming on as a substitute on September 26th against Mole Valley and also featured in the first team games against Croydon Municipal and Bedfont Sports.

Tom was also a member of Meadow Sports and was also a member of Woking Football Clubs youth academy.

We were due to pay our respects to Tom this week-end in the matches due to take place against Westfield Reserves and Staines Lammas but due to the weather these arrangements will now take place on our match with Westfield at home on Saturday 28th December.

The funeral will be at 10am on Tuesday 22nd December at St.Dunstans Church, Shaftesbury Road, Woking, GU22 7DT

Our thoughts at this tragic time are with the family of Tom, Nick and Anna Difelice.”

Needless to say, the League sends its sincere sympathies to Sheerwater FC and Tom’s family at this sad time.

BEDFONT SPORTS FC

Congratulations to Bedfont Sports FC who have become our latest club to “light up”.  They will start their first league match under lights on Wednesday 16 December, when Staines Lammas FC will be the visitors.

Kick-off will be 7.45 p.m.

COVE FC

The pitch at Cove is currently out of use, following  a main sewage pipe burst in midweek which has contaminated the pitch and surrounding area.

The damage is being cleared but the Club has to wait for the approval of the authorities before the pitch can be used again which it is hoped will be in 18-19 days.

Clubs will be kept informed upon an individual basis as far as forthcoming home matches for the Club are concerned.  The next home match, against Mole Valley SCR on 15 December in the Premier Challenge Cup will go ahead, possibly at Hartley Wintney FC or at Cobham FC.

Thanks go to those clubs who have offered to assist Cove through a difficult period.  The matter will be discussed by the Management Meeting on Monday 7 December.

FARNHAM TOWN FC

The following has been received from Farnham Town Secretary, Sandra Charlton

“I would just like to confirm the changes that have taken place over the last few weeks at Farnham Town Football Club.

Firstly it was with regret that the committee accepted the resignation of first team manager Barry Bridger. We would like to thank Barry for all the hard work and commitment he gave to us at Farnham for the time he was with us, and our thanks also go to all his family who helped out enormously behind the scenes. We wish you all the very best for the future.

It is with pleasure we can now confirm Mark Tigwell as First team manager. Barry appointed Mark at the beginning of the season as coach and so he is already well known by all the players, this hopefully has caused as little disruption to the teams as possible. Andy Sarratt has stepped up from reserve team coach to fill the position in the first team with Dean Nelson continuing as reserve team manager.

As a committee we would like to offer the management team all the support we can and look forward to a prosperous and successful season.”

BANSTEAD ATHLETIC FC

Offer from Banstead Athletic

We have received the following email from Banstead Chairman, Terry Molloy.  Anyone interested please contact Terry direct.

We have just upgraded our TV system to Sky HD.  We have had to change our projector in the lounge bar so we now have a mitsubushi projector surplus to requirements. We only replaced the bulb two weeks before we had the Sky HD fitted (bulb cost £200) ,and any sky or freeview box can be plugged into the projector to produce a 5ft square picture on a screen.

Any club that feels having this in their club please contact me on 07958 436483.

I do not wish for any payment for the projector,

Many thanks

Terry Molloy (Banstead Athletic FC)

MEMORIAL MATCH FOR STEVE RITCHIE

The Hayes & District Sunday Football League are staging the first of it’s re-launched Chairman’s Cup as a special match to the memory of Steve Ritchie who, of course, tragically died as the result of a assault after one of their league matches last season.

The game is to be held at Yeading Football Club on Sunday 13th September with a 2.00pm kick off. The ground will be open from 1.30pm and refreshments will be available with the bar open throughout the afternoon.

Admission will be £5.00 for adults or Senior citizens and children under the age of 16 being admitted free. All profits from the day will go to a charity of the Ritchie family’s choice. This will be an excellent opportunity for everyone to remember Steve and in a small way, bring something positive to a sad event which shocked the footballing family.

A bumper match Programme will be produced for the match and the league are seeking advertisers and sponsors for the event. More details from Ben Furneaux at 30 Pepys Close, Ickenham, Middlesex UB10 8NY Mobile number : 07926-581013  or E-mail : b_furneaux@hotmail.com.
